Hi Everybody I hope not be CRUCIFIED for this... But I love this singer and her albuns. I think sometimes she sounds very prog and in other songs, a little bit world "repetitive" music, but her voice is marvellous as her compositions, too. There are 3 albuns in special: "The Visit", "Mask and the Mirror" & "Book of Secrets". They are serious work with wonderfull music images... So, what do you think ? Gold or Junk ? Best Greetings... |

She is not strictly prog but she is referenced in at least three prog websites : babyblaue prog-rock, ground and sky and NGEPR. ------------- "Magma was the very first gothic rock band" (Didier Lockwood) |

Yes Lucas, but inmediately after her section in GEPR, Fred Trafton (The Editor) has to write: When I first took over as editor of the GEPR, I was surprised to find Loreena McKennitt's name in the encyclopedia. I'm a big fan of Ms. McKennitt's music, but I never really considered it to be progressive. This is what I would call "world music", in a big way, since she uses rhythms and musical modalities from all over the world, usually with her ethereal vocals over the top. Seldom rock, frequently Celtic, and usually intriguing. Also great music for home birthing (trust me on this one). Her latest live album Live In Paris And Toronto is an excellently performed and recorded overview of all her music, I would recommend this as a good starting point to get to know her style. -- Fred Trafton Seems like Mr. Trafton doesn't agree. Certainly much more to her music than new age Ivan. She's actually very versatile and inventive. Her albums are generally soft, but she has a superb voice, and is multi-talented instrumentally. She puts a lot of research and effort into her lyrics and music. I'm not advocating her inclusion in the site, but she deserves far more recognition than she gets.

Agree about her voice Easy Living, excellent, but I can't listen more than 5 minutes of her music without hearing the words Celtic and New Age inside my head. Iván

Nice stuff ... although nowhere near the quality of Renaissance ... pretty much on par with the best work of Blackmore's Night ... like Candace Night, there's no doubt that she pent a lot of time listening to Annie Haslam ... ------------- "Death to Utopia! I love Loreena McKinnett - I have 2 or 3 of her albums.. including Book of Secrets which I love. However, I agree that she's not prog.. and she is considered now as World Music...I don't think of her as being as new age as some of Enya's stuff... ------------- THIS IS ELP

Loreena McKennitt is great. Her voice is even better than Annie Haslim's....no small accomplishment. Most of her material is awesome. I will only say if she cannot be here than neither should Amazing Blondel....who is far less interesting and talented than Loreena. |

I like some of her work, definitely, and I own 2 albums of hers.
Somehow she actually made that poem "The Highwayman" palatable to me. I have bad memories of being made to read that thing in school...
