Is there any place in America where one can find a Magma album?
I've been looking for a while, and I've just gotten really addicted today. I'm craving some and I don't want to order from the internet, though I'm sure I will have to eventually if I can't find any.
You can order M.D.K. from Borders for $46 or something like that.
Does anyone have any advice?

I'm not sure about record stores because I have never found any Magma in them. I bought my albums from half.com and ebay. Anything from $23 to $30. |

I found a single Magma CD at some CD megastore once. It was so random, some live recording from 72 from back when they were a fusion band. Unfortunately, the only place you'll get a reasonable Magma price is iTunes. -------------   |

Seriously. But it was a live album. but still....they had MAGMA. thats pretty rare. I think your best bet is internet man. Its hard to find their stuff in mainstream buisness. Theres a place around where i live called the Mushroom that has all this rare stuff and they have Magma. Unless you have a place like that your best bet is with ze internet. -------------

I couldn't resist jumping in on this topic, as I'm a huge Magma fan. If you're a Rhapsody subscriber (online music service through real.com), almost all of the Magma albums (including the AKT releases) were added about two weeks ago. And the really interesting bit is that (for some odd reason) Rhapsody treats each track (no matter the length) as a normal $.98 download-able song. Retrospectiw I-II, for instance, cost me a whopping $1.78.  They also have Patrick Gauthier's "Bebe Godzilla," as well as some of the Christian an/or Stella Vander discs. |

I'm not a fan of 1001 or Kobaia personally. I'd much rather listen to the Zeuhl period than the fusion period. Haha, I just added Kobaia to the spell-check dictionary Firefox uses. ------------- |

I have actually found magma at two different shops here. One place was owned by a guy who had been a fan since the '70s. They also occasionally surface in one of the used stores I frequent. Its that easy to go a bittorrent site and steal the songs anyway...given the choice I always go to a music store. iTunes is cool because it has so much music but do people actually feel like they've bought an album if they've downloaded it off iTunes. (I always love walking out of a music store with a newly purchased prog album and tearing the plastic off of it!) |

That is a good point. I do prefer to have the actual CD. However, if your options are limited, sometimes it's the way to go. I got a better price on "Wild Orchids" throught iTunes than I would have at the store. That was also the only place I could find the first Transatlantic album when I was looking for it. They are good, wide array of stuff. They also collaborate with http://www.lasercd.com - Laser's Edge who also has most of the Magma stuff for reasonable price. They have more stuff on the prog metal side, if that floats your boat. I've spent thousands of dollars at both sites. Aquarius Records in San Francisco stocks Magma for about the same prices as Wayside, which is in Maryland.
I've dealt with both companies.
Wayside was faster, but that may have been due to the fact that Northern Ohio is closer to Maryland than California.
