I recently acquired the "Terra In Bocca" CD and enjoy it quite a bit. I also learned that the version I have is considered possibly a "demo" version and is not the original release !! It's 44 min long not 46! What I want to know is, "Is there any significant difference in these 2 versions, either musically or sound quality-wise?" The one I have definitely sounds better than any demos from that era that I have heard. Should I be tracking down the longer version? Thanks!

Let me add, that based on everything I have seen and heard, the CD I have *should* be an exact replica of the original album, exzcept for the fact that its only 44 minutes long.

fascinating....
Recently "Terra in bocca" has been reissued by Akarma on vinyl, and
this reissue also includes a song from their last single. You can find
two different re-released versions on Vinyl Magic CD of Terra in bocca:
the first one was released in 1989 and it is curiously different from
the original LP (total length is 44:11 minutes), probably coming from a
demo tape. This first reissue also includes a miniature reproduction of
the original poster. A second version was released in 1993 (almost
identical to the first in the CD cover, 46:44 minutes length, and
probably taken from the original masters). This one doesn't include the
mini-poster.
checked my copy of it....I have the same as you. Rest assured we'll get to the bottom of this. If there is a better...and longer version... damnit... I want it hahhahah. Funny thing is... we have the latest CD version of it.
so why would the 2000 version go back to version issued in 89 as opposed to the version in 93.
Thanks Walker... bringing this to Andrea's attention and we'll see what he has to say.

Thanks. It will be interesting to see what he has to say. If it was wasn't for the disc length, I'd be sure I had the original version. Did you notice the timings on the album page? Each part is 23min unlike the version we have. I suspect that the timings are wong and maybe the demo version is acually 46min and the album is 44min. That would explain all.

awesome ...
but I am confused as HELL ... hahhah read this from GEPR.... we HAVE the version that has Largo Iniziale according to our liner notes...
looks like I am keeping this one...and getting another hahahha
The most intriguing aspect of Terra in Bocca is the fact that it exists in two
distinct versions. The 1989 CD version by Vinyl Magic (VM 013) is taken from a demo mix that
apparently even saw a cassette-only release before the actual LP came out. About two minutes
shorter than the LP version, this version lacks a couple of sections (e.g. the instrumental
overture "Largo iniziale") and has sparser arrangements, with less http://www.gepr.net/proginst.html#MELLOTRON - Mellotron and studio
effects (e.g. none of the weird English rant on "Plim plim" or the whispering interlude on
"Allegro per niente"). The lighter sound reveals the pop roots of many sections clearer, yet
in a way is also more lyrical at places, with naked melodies shining more brightly without
layers of roaring guitars or electronic treatments trying to prop them to quasi-Wagnerian
heights. Some of the solos are different as well, as is the order in which the themes are
presented, and there even seems to be a few verses and bits of music that are not present on
the latter version. So while I prefer the Akarma version, this is not without value, as a
curiosity if nothing else. Note that all other CD versions, including Vinyl Magic's
identically-numbered 1993 edition, are based on the LP version, though unlike Akarma's
version, they have no bonus track and do not subdivide the original LP sides into shorter
tracks.

(groan) .. I was afraid of that. I wonder how one goes about finding the other version?
The description of the music sounds like we have the demo version music with the album version liner notes .

^ Yes, it was very useful, thanks! Only, my initial question remains. Are the differences between the 2 versions enough to justify seeking out a copy of the longer version? From the quote posted by Micky above, it seems like their would be many differences.
(more 'tron!) Where can I buy this other version and be sure that I'm not getting something that I already have?

The second part is the same... There are some differences in the first part... The original one has richer arrangements and less recitative vocal parts... If you are not a completionist I think that the copy you own is enough... In an old thread I posted the full translation of the lyrics (I asked permission to btf to use it in the forum). If you need it I can post it again...

No, no, that won't be necessary, but thanks. I am relieved to hear that the second part is the same. I would be interested in investigating the other version further, though. From what I gather it was released on Akarma? Do you know of a website selling the Akarma CD? BTF only has the version I already own.

Description CD
Originally released in 1971 on RiFi. Their only album was a conceptual work dealing with criminality and the mafia. A good Italian progressive combo (including Ares Tavolazzi of Area and Vince Tempera). Featuring a bonus track. Free poster.

The Akarma CD has the work broken up into individual tracks and also has a bonus track at the end. I did find a used one for sale at Amazon.com, but the guy has it listed for $170 and I'm not paying that. Ebay did not have one. I'll keep you posted!

rockrevulutionrecords.com has it in stock. the only problem is the site is in french and the translater in my web browser won't translate it for some reason. It will cost about $35 US, but I can't buy it because I can't register!
Oh well.... I'll just have to be satisfied for now with the one I have.
EDIT: OK, I wasn't satisfied for very long . I plowed through the registration page (in french) and got myself registered (I think). They took my credit card number, so I must have done something right. At the end end I got this message:
Paiement realise avec succes
Merci de votre confiance
I am taking this to mean I completed the purchase!
If this site terms out to be a scam I will be and !
Anyone out there have any experience with rockrevolutionrecords.com? I guess I should have asked this BEFORE giving them my card number!
