I know there are many others but I tried to fit in the most renowned....

My all-time favorite is, without a doubt, Rachmaninov, for his wonderful piano concertos and preludes. He wrote with a grand ferocity that I think conveys a powerful message and is present in all of his pieces.

My follow ups are:

2. Chopin
3. Brahms
4. Beethoven
5. Bach

Many on the list are "stereotypical" classic artists I know, but that doesn't stop them from being great.

Liszt, Liszt and a thousand times Liszt!

Beethoven is sublime, Wagner is magnificent and Scarlatti is hugely underrated, but for me Liszt trumps them all with his incredible piano virtuosity, thematic transformations, literary influences and bold advances in harmony.

Other favorites not listed are Berlioz and Rossini.

i had to vote for Bartok because it seems that you have somehow left off BOTH Vivaldi and Ravel.

Chopin is the man. Then, in no particular order, Beethoven, Mozart, Liszt, Johann Strauss (missed here!)........
