So, over the last two days I've watched the entire trilogy on DVD, and OMFG!!!!!!!!!! Those films are amazing! For some reason I was never interested in it (My mum owns the box set), when all of a sudden I decided to watch them, and I was hooked instantly. Each film is an absolute epic in my eyes.

Discuss.

Overall, Peter Jackson did a marvelous job. There are a few missing pieces and some abuse of creative license, but it's a wonderful take on the books. Especially the extended versions. Some of the scenes were important and should have been in the original release. Purests be damned.

I've said it before, the skateboarding and dwarf-tossing jokes pretty much sealed the already shaky deal for me. Jackson did a fine job making something based on Tolkien, but ultimately it has as much authenticity as Wilson-Phillips' cover version of Elton John's "Daniel".

Yes, I think Jackson and New line got held up too much with the length of each film.  (Length has never bothered prog fans).  Overall, in this age of video/dvd, Jackson did a great service to the loyal fans who still payed to see the movies without those scenes by including them in the extended versions (not to mention raking in a few extra bucks in the process).

Haha.  Can't help but wonder why prog bands didn't pick up on that. Here is the marketing blurb:

My feelings exactly. Seems to be a minority view though. I may not be certain of many things in life but I am certain of this: Tolkien would not have liked it.
