Flower Kings enter the studio to make their 10th studio album, "The Sum of No Evil."

The Swedish Prog masters, The Flower Kings, have entered Varispeed Studios in southern Sweden to work on their 10th studio album entitled, "The Sum of No Evil." Varispeed is known for its vintage gear producing a great '70's sound and vibe.

"Altogether this album is a definite step back to what we did around Retropolis/Stardust/Flower Power," says main man Roine Stolt, "a more symphonic, melodic style with more keyboard/guitar interplay."

"We're working on 6 songs," continues Roine, "all just working titles, "Love Is The Only Answer" a 26 min epic, very symphonic in the vein of early TFK songs (think Stardust or Garden Of Dreams); "Trading My Soul" cinematic melancholic ballad, big sound; "Brimstoned Again "a Tomas Bodin instrumental with frantic drumming from Zoltan, as prog as it gets; "We're Life In Motion" very upbeat and positive melodic TFK'ish 13 min track, possible closer of the set; "Dukular,” a very keyboard-oriented 13 min track that is close to early ELP, Genesis and Refugee, great catchy hook, Hasse sings; "Sum Of No Reason" - a heavy riffing and very proggy melancholic 12 min tune, about religion, business and wars, think UK with Bozzio, lots of odd time signatures and polyrhythm, drop-tuning etc.”

To the surprise of a lot of fans, this album also features the return of Hungarian drumming prodigy, Zoltan Csorsz.

Look for The Flower Kings’ "The Sum of No Evil" in stores this October with a tour to follow.

I always love albums with a few longer songs (just like Fear of a Blank Planet).

Using the working titles...
Love Is The Only Answer - 26:00
Trading My Soul - ?:??
Brimstoned Again - ?:??
Sum Of No Reason - 12:00
Dukular - 13:00
We're Life In Motion - 13:00

So far, the four epics add up to about 64 minutes, leaving about 16 minutes for the remaining two songs.
Looks to be a good, concise record. I think with only 6 songs and most likely a packed album, this may end up being their best work yet! Infact, Roine seems very confident in it too! And I'm happy that Zoltan is back!

Also, I'm pretty sure this was news a few weeks ago... I was hoping for more definitive information, but I guess we'll have to wait!

Can't they ever make an album that isn't as long as it could possibly be!?

Well the longer tracks are where they are strongest, and this album seems to be loaded with them. Looking forward to this quite a bit.

Very good news! I love Zoltan Csórsz drumming. I really hope the music is similar to their earlier releases like Stot is promising. I'm really curious about it!

No... Stolt would feel like Schindler at the end of "Schindler's List"......."Oh, I could've put one more minute... oh, with this ring, I could've fit another two minutes in the cd..."

As I can recall Roine said something about returning to the sound of Retropolis before making Paradox Hotel. The output was not 20% as good as Retropolis

Roine Stolt has to be pushing very hard for a new format to replace the cd, like dvd-audio or blu-ray audio or something... he really NEEDS a couple GB of space...LOL

NEW ALBUM MIXED AND MASTERED !!!

New Flowerkings album is mixed mastered and ready to go to printers !!!!

Yes it is true ,I've finally escaped from the monster that is our new album.
It took about 6 weeks longer than expected .........but that was expected .....huh .
Well it was raining most of the time in Sweden anyway so why not put some extra time into getting the album mix more than excellent, there are so many facets to the EQ of a hi-hat anyway ........

Is it any good ? well ask me today and I'd say it's crap .....just like any other rock album out there ..... however if you ak me in 2 weeks from now I will probably say it is our finest album to date ..........and this time I can honestly say so .

All members have put in excellent work and lot's of soul and comittment, the songs are
full of fantasy and flair, just as you'd expect from Flowerkings.
Most of all, this is Flowerkings "to the max",I can safely say that anyone that have ,at one point in their life loved Flowerkings ,or progressive rock,as we know it , will most
certainly LOVE this album.
It has everything a prog lover would kill for and delivered with both skill and passion
with no cheese moments and no pointless prognoodling just for the sake of proggin',
and no we don't use any make up or masks like PG did, nor did we order dead stuffed animals to the studio when recording and Jonas had no 5000 pound Persian carpet .
But I drank an awful lot of tea,all sorts, all flavours.......

It is is quite keyboard-heavy at times ,just as progrock was in the 70's ,lot's of true analog Hammond B3,Wurlizer,Rhodes pianos ,Minimoog and CS 80 galore .
I think Tomas even played a school organ from the 50's and he found a few other cheesy 70's Yamaha and ACE organs too.......however he didn't play .....the organ .

It has lots of cool busy drumming and bassing from Zoltan and Jonas ,just as a prog rhythm section should do,top 70's vibe.....some cool epic guitarleads and Hasses hi pitch vocal that deliver the epic chill,hi as ever and stronger than before and my quirky lower vocal that take you to unseen places or to the WC for an unexpected throw up ,I know my accent is terrible and I'm "no real singer" but I insist in doing it anyway 'cause I just love to torture some fans of "real singers" ,it gives me such a sadistic pleasure,I'm sooooo perverted.

Probably an album that need time to grow ,just as prog should be ,but yet it has some cool instant hooks ,but NO popsongs,No jazz noodling (unless you concider Crimson or Zappa to be jazz) and NO ambient experiments , just pure symphonic prog ......and some selleri and carrot.
When I say symphonic it means the album have a few sections that are grander and more symphonic than any other Flowerkings CD ,grander than grand .....bigger than big.....fatter than fat......
On one track we have a 320 men/women choir flown in from Budapest and 3 imported german Church organs that was taken down and built up again in the studio for that grand final chord ,last song ......you know the sustained one that last for 54 seconds .
THAT's what I would call a REAL prog epic ending .

But Hey , why talk about the album .......it has to be heard ..........I've heard it too many times ( about 3754) and you haven't heard it at all.

Well ,who said the world is fair to a progfan ?

In a few weeks we'll put up a few teasers on MySpace .

Help us propel this release into a bestseller and chances that we'll tour YOUR turf will
be good ,to very good ......who knows maybe excellent .
We might even do an extra encore.......buy Tomas a coke and he'll do it .

By chance is there anyone out there who own a VW bus in good shape and wanna
sell it , I'll have Klaus Voorman do a paintjob and we'll get our stuff in and .....
tour , rice and noodles.......US and Euro .......all year long ,playing these songs for you.......we're dying to get this material in shape and play it live ......We'll rule prog for evermore, put ANY other band to shame !

Place a pre - order very soon .

Roine .
