Sometimes when Its been a long day and i´m pretty tired, I dont need something heavy to relax me. I´ll  put in Ozric Tentacles or Mogwai. If i´m anxious or excited about an upcoming event. I´ll listen to sparatic, niose rock/ avant garde.
Do you have a mood for your prog? or...prog for your mood? Wink

Beginning of the day: Upbeat, fast, powerful
End of the day: Calm, low-key

when i need to get pumped for something,
i usually listen to Starship Trooper or Starless, because they build up and explode with a great finish
i guess i listen to jazz fusion when i want to get excited
that's about it

I either like the light and uplifting songs of Yes... to the dark and "dont talk to me" mood of tool. A bit in between.

Morning: Usually Something not too heavy Jazz-rock/Symphonic like Weather Report, Gentle Giant, Yes, Soft Machine...

Mid-Day: Depends, but a bit more powerful stuff.

Evening: Eiter like Morning or mid-day. Depends on the day and the mood.

Of course it changes from day to day

I find that I cannot cope with King Crimson, Mahavishnu Orchestra or Gentle Giant if I am in anyway slightly TENSE - I have to be relaxed to put them on, so some Tangerine Dream or Camel will soon put me in the right frame of mind.

I can listen to Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, Pendragon or Genesis regardless of my mood Approve

If I am particularily happy, I'll listen to Carptree.

I like to listen to Gentle Giant in the morning, I don't know why but it's really great (especially Tree Friends). Genesis is reserved for the end of the day before I finish my "shift" :)

That's right !  These last couples of days I listen to some Italian Prog (Nuova Era, La Torre Dell'Achimista, Finnistere, etc.) on my way to work, and some instrumental prog (Capharnaum (from Québec), Ozric Tentacles, etc.) when I'm coming back home.

I go thru musical phases rather than emotional music needs.  Right now I want thrash metal.  Two weeks ago it was doom metal, the week after that I need Sigur Ros and Genesis.  So I dunno. Basically I just know what I want and then I listen to it.

Not really moody as in emotional...I just feel like I'm in a mood to listen to a band.

Example: Oh man, I'm in a Yes mood!

Glad to hear you can do it without drugs.
However, upon reflection seeing a shrink might not be a bad idea.
They've come a long way since valium.

For example, I've already received my marks from school.... they suck!! Logically it turned me down......
But then I explored my music files in my PC and started to listen "Song for Jeffrey" from Rock 'n' Roll Circus. I inmediately felt glad!! Hahaha........ yeah: sometimes prog (or music in general) definitely rules my mood....... xD

Usually I can listen to anything, though after a loooong day usually non-demanding music helps.

Also, when depressed it's always good to listen to some depressing music.

But other than that...

Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

That's funny, I'm the opposite. I like my mornings quiet and my nights loud. Nevermind getting rest, I have prog to listen to.

I don't seem to have any set moods for any time of day.

My mood typically doesn't effect what I'm listening to, other than if I'm angry I'll listen to some of the more exteme prog metal.

When I'm in a good mood and not really stressed out, I'll listen to one of my experimental prog albums.  On days when I'm feeling pressured and uptight I'll put on something on the safer side.

The only Prog that I assign to a given mood is Tool. They pump me up big time. The power and aggression is raw but purposeful. There is no other band that competes with them.

Well when im a bit sad i put the obvious sadder and more depressed and dark music around or at least near that like Univers Zero, Anglagard, King Crimson, Van der Graaf Generator, Opeth, some Peter Hammill and Steve Hackett, the silver MT Zion, or when its autumn or winter. When its summer, (like nowadays!!!) i put Yes, Peter Gabriel (the more uplifting musics) Genesis, Supertramp, Frank Zappa, Gentle Giant, Rush, the tangent. Only sleepytime Gorilla Museum is not due to emotions, they're pure art,  like all the others but for me they dont answer to a certain mood, only a will to hear something really intense and profoundly magnificent.

The albums I choose to listen to usually change moods part way so I don't listen to music because I'm in a certain mood or whatever.

I like compilations and playlists on random mode. I'm happier if the music dictates my mood than vice versa.

I listen to my Walkman quite a lot and play by alphabetical album name. This way I have no say in what I listen to and I have sometimes wondered if my mood reflects the music I am listening to.
