In terms of Sound Quality and Instramental Capabilities, does the Chapman Stick Trump a Guitar or keyboard?

I think a big problem with the stick is its inaccesability though. its lots more expensive than most guitars and harder to learn.

You asked about sound quality and capabilities, not price and playability.

You could as well ask is a piano better than an organ - different instruments, different techniques, different sounds, chalk & cheese, no comparison.

No its isn't better. Just different.
Personally I will always prefer guitar/keyboards.

The stick is the tuxedo of electronic instruments.

I always thought my own stick was better.
I would say that it depends on the artist and the song. Sometimes a stick fits well and sounds great. But some songs I think would sound ghastly with a stick. I didn't vote, because "It depends" wasn't an option.

Eh I don't quite know. The stick is amazing, especially as a solo instrument with people such as Greg Howard. I love songs with just the stick, but I don't quite know if it is better than guitars and keys. Keys can add a ton to atmospheres, and guitars can also do a lot.
I'm just not going to vote.
For a nice soft song on just the stick, go listen to "Blue Ridge" by Greg Howard. It's a beautiful song, that I would imagine is tough to play (but I don't know for sure, because I do not play myself).

woah awesome! I really love the stuff he makes on the Stick. I also love those videos of his on the the Chapman Stick website. It looks difficult to play, but then he just plays stuff and says "it's just like playing a piano!" I wish I knew how to play one like him.

It was actually a complete accident I met/saw him. I went to see Niacin...I think? Anyways he opened up and I had no idea because it wasn't on the billing. Anyways I had just seen his videos a couple weeks before so I was pretty excited. He did some awesome songs and a Beatles medley, and All Along the Watchtower. He seemed pretty humble.

As Jim said, not "better" -- different.
Love the sound of the instrument though -- Levin using it was always immediately recognizable. What amazed me, when I saw him play it live, was just how much of the 80s Crimson "guitar" was actually done/mirrored by him, on the Stick.
Bass lines and melody/rhythm at the same time -- cool! ![Cool](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley16.gif)
Pretty impressive for Chapman to invent a totally new instrument that gets widespread acceptance & use, too! ![Clap](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif)

Yeah, when I saw Neil and Jack and Me, I was amazed to find him playing the part I'd previously thought to be "rhythm guitar" on Sartori in Tangier (I probably totally butchered that spelling because I don't feel like looking up the correct one).

No instrument is better than any other (except bassoon, which is better than anything).

I'd like to know what Keyboards have to do with it, after all I havnt seen any polls asking if you'd want to replace keyboards with guitars or vice versa. Plus, in my experience, the Stick and Warr guitar tend to be played by bassists like Levin, Myung and Gunn.

If you want a Chapman Stick blowout, check out Gordian Knot's debut. It's run by ex-Cynic bassist Sean Malone and he plays stick with MYung and several others.
I haven't listened to a lot of stick recording, but I always loved Levin's playing. Chapman invented it, but without Levin, it would never have gotten the widespread acceptance it did, or at least not as quickly IMHO.

Being a Tapper myself I am partial to tap instruments (Stick, Warr, Megatar).
But this is an apples/oranges poll.
