I've just received an original copy of "SC" in Poland, bought in legal Internet store. So I think that from now on, we can cut the discussion about reviewing and rating the album before the release date, and even that the date is June 6th, the reviews and ratings without reviews should be made available for everyone.

Good Grief!  Has any album ever gotten such a wide variety of reviews?  I've read about 20 reviews on this site and still have no earthly idea what to expect.  And it's just being released in the US today so no telling what response it will garner by the end of the month on here.  I personally can't wait to hear it but I see no way it will be as great/awful as their fans/detractors are making it out to be.

I picked up the deluxe edition today and got through the first 4 tracks while at lunch. Still too early, but I like it a lot. Seems to be a lot of musical w**kery since Jordan Rudess came on. Started off by the ragtime section on Scenes From A Memory and got a little taste of it on this disc. Dream Theater are always interesting to listen to, however.

Bought the special edition this morning, listened to it during lunchtime, and hey, I like it a lot too !

Not too much over technical stuff, even the poppier songs on it are good (Forsaken, in moments, reminds me of Samael's The Cross from Eternal, while Prophets of War reminds me of Muse), really enjoy Repentance.  Have yet to hear the last song though, but I really enjoy what I heard so far.  Was pleasantly surprised to hear Petrucci stretching his notes for a few minutes in the instrumental intro to In the Presence of Enemies pt.I, now he shows us he can play with FEEL and be successful at it.

With this album, DT took a step back up in my book.

Man, did you see the 'voices' credits on "Repentence"? Check out this lineup:
Mikael Akerfeldt, Jon Anderson, David Ellefson, Daniel Gildenlow, my boy Steve Hogarth, Chris Jericho (pro wrestler, isn't he?), Neal Morse, Joe Satriani, Corey Taylor (Slipknot?) Steve Vai and Steven Wilson.

A very good album from the first half dozen or so listens I've given it and a massive improvement over Octavarium, I can actually hear Myung again.Big%20smile

It'll be a while before I review, I want it to sink in properly, but I'm thinking it might come out as one of their best.

Edit: ^ That is quite a list of names they have E, I was really surprised when the first line of Repentence was sung by Wilson.

I like how Rudess is able to put a ragtime piano solo into just about any Dream Theater song...LOL

That's the thing that annoys me about an otherwise widly talented musician.

As for the disc, I'm really enjoying it a lot. A guy I work with is a huge DT nut and he got both the standard and special edition. I'll do that for Marillion, but am happy with my special edition of the new DT.

Apparently, he's the vocalist (?) for a band called Fozzy(?) and one of  Mike Portnoy's close buddies. He sparked up the Tate-Portnoy wordfight, by texting Mike all the shi*ty things Geoff Tate (of Queensryche) was saying all about him and Dream Theater. I think those happened before the Operation Mindcrime II was released.
Anyways, I got the album 2 days ago and man, it was sweet! For me the album as a whole was definitely better than Octavarium. Dream Theater are doing a great job.Clap

I sill don't know what to think. I'll probably give it 3/5. It's got more lows than most Dream Theater albums, but even those lows aren't than bad. The sad thing is that is has few if any exceptional moments.

He was also a pro wrestler at one time and you see him a lot on VH1 Classic.

Just happened to take a peek over at billboard magazine's charts and the album debuted at #19.  Not too shabby.  Must mean there's a lot of newbies buying it.  Too bad they aren't getting to hear them at their best.  Just listened to "Six Degrees" off of "Score" yesterday and was reminded of how great they can be.

^Same happened in the UK- charted at No.25. Excellent- has to mean there are new fans getting into prog bands. Apparently DT went down a storm at Download Festival too...

That's great.  I may not like the CD but if people are buying it instead of some kind of inane rap slobber then I can live with that quite easily.
