My fiancee's daughter is called Kayleigh. No prizes for guessing the inspiration for that! Wink

Are your kids blessed/cursed with names inspired by prog bands or songs, or do you know of any who are?

Perhaps you have a prog name yourself, or you plan to give your children prog names. Let us know!

True! There's another Kayleigh at my work. Could Kayleigh be the most popular prog name?

Felona and Sorona would be nice for twins.

But watch out, there are people who really give their children the most ridiculous names. Dweezil and Moon Unit, I'm sure they're very grateful to their father, mr. Frank Z. ... And Bob Geldof, who called his children Peaches and Tennessee Bob, which could be abbreviated to Ten Bob. Smile

I'd like to name a future daughter of mine Melinda, after the main character's true love in Opeth's Still Life.

Mikael Akerfeldt had a daughter about two years ago and named her that.

If I ever named my Son after a prog inspired character, or a prog musician, It would have to be either "Rael John Mc******" from... the obvious, or "Nick Snow Mc******"

Nick being the lead singer to Spock's beard, and Snow being the character their concept album "Snow" is revolved around.
Gosh I love spock's beard. Such a great band.

If I did have a girl though, and had to name it after a Prog inspired character/musician, It would definitly be Lilly

For daughter: Vera or Julia (after a Pavlovs Dog song).

For son, ehm...

well...in former Yugoslavia (most notably in Macedonia) male name Pop is very common (see the PA entry for Tihomir Pop Asanovic, for example). Also, there is nothing unusual with the name Rok  (especially in Slovenia). So, I guess its nothing wrong if I name my son Pop-Rok Ermm

Dweezil is a really good name, and I would name one of my kids (if I get any, I don't plan to) Dweezil if it hadn't been so obvious that I was just ripping off Frank Zappa in doing so. It's hard to come up with something original these days...

Nebëhr Gudahtt is a really nice name aswell. Continuing the Magma theme, one could name twins Ürgon and Gorgo.

Now what Johnny Cash song does that remind me of? A boy named Jody? Sissy? Of course, A boy named Sue.....

But seriously, I think you have a point here Jody. I went through my music collection for our childrens names, about 6 years ago, but decided to stick with decent human names. Our daughter we called  Gwendolyn Kyra, because we like Celtic names, and Kayleigh was a bit too obvious, and our son is Yannick, Yannick again for the Celtic influence (and a tiny reference to Janick Gers and tennis player Yanick Noah). His second name Joël was picked by his mother, for less proggy reasons. Wink

What about poor Yannick Top of Magma, Angelo, don't forget him!

I'd name my cats Meurglys and Calyx if I had two cats to name...

As for sons and daughters... well, I want unique names, but not silly ones.  I think perhaps a silly name for a middle name is fine though.

Therefore, I could have the name Meurglys as a middle name for a daughter.  Man-Erg wouldn't work quite so well... but Gog Magog might! LOL

I was thinking, if I get 4 daughters, I'll name the last 2 proggy. The first ones will be Katri and Sonja, and the two will be Julia and Anna after SBBs 'Slovenian Girls' album, which is brilliant by the way.

I wish I was English though, it would be easier to adapt names like Kayleigh, which is really pretty, or Fripp, which is the name I use for my character in all RPGs, and would for my son too. It's just really cool.

As a kid I would have given anything for a dull boring (i.e. non-Hollywood) name - Though probably not James either since that was originally going to be my first name and Dean my middle name until my Dad said that was a stupid idea, though I don't suppose James Dean Bradfield thinks so...

I seem to remember hearing that Roine Stolt's sons are named John Sebastian Stolt and Peter Gabriel Stolt. Not sure of the truth f that one though.

I did go to elementary school with a couple of uniquley name-maimed kids. The family name was Tree. The children were Merry Christmas and Douglas Fir.    I always did feel a bit sorry for them, even when teasing them mercilessly.
