I know they did Donovan's "Lalena" on their third, but Im pretty sure they did "We Can Work It Out" on their 2nd.

Deep Purple did 'Help' and 'We Can Work It Out' in that dragged out, retooled manner of Vanilla Fudge. The Fudge themselves did 'Eleanor Rigby' and 'Ticket To Ride' on their debut.

And Steve Howe, when he was in Tomorrow, did a rather pedestrian, note-for-note cover of 'Strawberry Fields Forever'. The same goes for Fudge-esque act that preceded Uriah Heep (featuring Ken Hensley and Lee Kerslake) called The Gods, who did a pointless near note perfect cover of 'Hey Bulldog'.

Does Phil Collins' cover of 'Tomorrow Never Knows' count (again it adds little to the original, imho)?

Lone Star did a pretty good cover of 'She Said She Said' on their debut too.

Damn, I was just going to mention Lone Star.

Peter Gabriel has done a pretty good version of Strawberry Fields Forever.

Has anyone mentioned Barclay James Harvets and their influences?  Especially the song Titles.  Not necessarily "covers", but hugely influenced band and songs.

Phil Collins' cover of TNK is a bit of a stinker, IMHO LOL

I don't know The Gods' version, but an all-girl group called Fanny did a fantastic cover of "Hey Bulldog" - can't remember which album off hand, but I think it was their rather cool debut. David Bowie was a big fan of Fanny... they were great (even if non-prog).

Vanilla Fudge made lots of Beatles' covers (for example: Eleonor Rigdy and many others)

Yeah, I didn't like Phil's cover of TND- and I really, really like Face Value other than that and the pointless, R & B rehash of Genesis' Behind The Lines. Never heard Fanny's cover of Hey Bulldog.

There's a version of Tomorrow Never Knows on 801 Live, a bit funky for my taste but Eno's at his best when he tries to do pop music! Wink

The only one I know is "We can work it out" by TESLA. Not a prog band but still a funky version on their " Five Man Acoustical Jam " cd.
Guess I'm not much of a help here, sorry ! Cry

On King Crimson's Heavy ConstruKction set, one of the improvs is a strange, rather loose version of Tomorrow Never with elements of Thela Hun Ginjeet, cleverly titled Tomorrow Never Knew Thela.

Kansas did Eleanor Rigby on... Somewhere to Elsewhere or Always Never the Same, I forget which.

Although not prog, Styx covered I Am the Walrus on Big Bang Theory. Cheap Trick also did Magical Mystery Tour and Day Tripper.

I stumbled across this thread when I was trying to find out on what album I can find a 17-minute live version of Tomorrow Never Knows I have just found on Limewire Shocked by Les Claypool featuring Oysterhead & The Fearless Flying Frog Brigade (as per the tag) ... it is pretty cool. Anyone know what album this version on TNK is off by any chance?

And on the subject of Beatles covers: Zoot, an Aussie prog band, did a quite heavy ( for its day ) version of Eleanor Rigby that does not appear to be well known outside of Australia.

Phil Collins has covered this as well, I think it was on a George Martin CD. Where can I find the Transatlantic version?
