Latest news on the new Ayreon album, tentatively title "Ayreon 7", has been posted on Arjen's My Space site - http://www.myspace.com/ayreonauts - http://www.myspace.com/ayreonauts and the Ayreon official homepage. http://www.ayreon.com - www.ayreon.com . Looks like we are in for another double cd masterpiece!!
Transcript as follows;
"Ayreon Number 7
Alright. Kept you in suspense for a bit I suppose, but here is some news on the new Ayreon album (currently referred to as Ayreon Number 7).
As you may have read in the interview Arjen gave a few months ago, Arjen initially wanted to release a compact 1 CD album and add a sort of bonus CD for the die hard fans.
But since the interview Arjen has had tremendous amounts of inspiration (no doubt with a little help from the caring fans who sent emails and stuff, thanks!) so he found his muse and wrote and wrote and wrote (or rather composed, composed, and composed).
Last week Arjen put the finishing touches on the demos and the new Ayreon album is set to be a double album with 15 tracks clocking in at about 100 minutes (you do the math ;-)).
As far as vocalists are concerned there will be quite a few of them. A number of 'lines' have already been thrown out, both by Arjen and the record label, and we've had a few serious bites already. But it's going to be quite a puzzle to figure out who sings where, when, how, etc.
Drums will be recorded soon by Ed Warby, and I'll certainly let you know how that went.
I'm not saying anything about the concept yet, but it's taking serious shape already."

Sweeeeeeet news.
If it's at least similar to THE quality, it may well be album-of-the-year for 2007 (I'm hoping and praying it comes out at the end of this year, but I guess it might release in early 2008).

^ I'd put money on either Gildenlow or Steven Wilson being on it. Not both of them, that's just wishful thinking, but it seems natural that one of them will make it on the album. SW has never done Ayreon before, right?
Personally I'm hoping for Maynard James Keenan, but speaking of wishful thinking ... I know it's never gonna happen.

^^ I doubt Steven Wilson would ever be on an Ayreon album - Those albums are Arjen's creations. It seems to me that Steven likes to create his own albums and be in charge of their development, not the other way around.

Besides.. I don't see Wilson making that type of music.. I mean.. he dislikes Dream Theater quite a bit and Ayreon can head of into stereotype prog metal territories quite often

I'd like Allen, I'd like Gildenlow, I'd like Wilson (don't expect it), but guess what singer I'd love to see as the main character again??

I had to ask Arjen that question via email.
And his response was:
"Yeah, I Know him, incredible singer indeed! So who Knows? ;)"
We can hope. I'm sure someday we will get a Gildenlow performance on Ayreon.

I wonder if these guys know how much good publicity these types of things are.
I was turned onto Gildenlow through his involvement with Transatlantic on the Live in Europe DVD and then fell in love with Pain of Salvation.
I knew nothing about Opeth until Akerfeldt blew me away in the Human Equation. And just in the last month, I have purchased four Opeth CDs.
Now that I've fallen for Lucassen's work, I just purchased In the Electric Castle and am intrigued by Fish's vocals on that album and wonder if I should delve into the early Marillion stuff.
I'm sure these guys realize that they have a lot to gain from this type of collaboration and I love the fact that Lucassen makes it happen on every single Ayreon album. He's got a pretty neat thing going which is unique in the music industry.

I'm hoping for Russel Allen and Mikael Åkerfeldt!
also, I wouldn't mind two of my favorite singers and countrymen, Roy Khan and Jørn Lande, appearing on the album

Not only was this some of the best news ever about Ayreon 7 but - now I desperately want these guys on it. Even though JMK would never do it. (although it would be cool.) BUT I can see SW and DG singing main "lines"... Now that really would make an Ayreon album.
