One thing bugs me about both of these bands... what could they possibly know about financial hardship , oh they talk the talk but they don`t walk the walk  ..  its time this little charade was addressed  once and for all    both respected artists who like to sell their hard luck story  in their lyrics  do you believe it ?   I feel sad that Peart went through hes hardship   but I bet you know people who have been through hell and back as well  ?  are they counting their millions after telling their story ?  money is a funny thing but half of us are not left smiling ,  as far as roger waters goes  I never understood that guy  Smile

Certainly not Rush...I don't think they were playing the poor me card. How dare you accuse Rush of doing so! Unless you can point me to something convincing that says opposite....

Oh I don't think the Floyd ever really did that.  Songs such as Money, Welcome to the Machine, Have a Cigar, are merely examples of their cynical humour.

Got to agree with the others here....pretty lame poll.

First off - these guys can write about whatever they want.  Doesn't mean they have to live through it.  And the line about Peart's hardships is BS.

Rush have never played the 'poor me card' Thats a ridiculous suggestion. Neil Peart did go through hell, as many people do, why on Earth should he not write books and music about his experiences? Thats what all good authors and song writers do; draw on personal experience.

The fact that he is wealthy is neither here nor there. He was wealthy before he lost his family, and no amount of money is going to compensate for that degree of loss.

I remember Gilmour saying in "Live at Pompeii" that his earnings were "breadline; breadline and less" before entering the Pink Floyd. However that wasn't "oh poor me", but a rather humorous approach to his story.

Do you really think that after the hell Peart went through in his personal life he even gives a damn about how much money he is making?I know I wouldn't.

As far as Waters goes,I don't think he wrote music for financial gain.I think writing about stuff like an unhappy or abusive childhood is cathartic,a way to get it out of your system.

I'm trying to recall a Rush or Pink Floyd lyrics that related to being poor ???
OH, now I get it ... suffering is only possible when you lack wads of money. So in Peart's case, his millions (??? how many) could have been spent towards therapy that would have taken care of the pain.
YEAH, LIKE LOSING YOUR WIFE & DAUGHTER IS SOMETHING THAT'S EASIER TO TAKE WHEN YOU'RE RICH !
But now back to normal type - get a life, they make music. Would you say the same about Muddy Waters or John Lee Hooker singing blues songs after they became financially stable (they deserved millions $$$ more, but thus is fate).

err... they were alive before they were in successful bands you know.

And money does not equal happiness, no matter what this retarded capitalist world we live in says.
