Inspired by the "left or right" politics thread, I am asking you this important question.

About 8% of world population is left-handed.
Statistically speaking, left-handed people have higher IQ.
Universally accepted, prog is music for the brain.

So, a priori, a forum for prog-enthusiasts should have a higher amount of left-handed individuals than the rest of the world.

Oh, and by the way, don't take me seriously. And yes, I'm left-handed

I've only got one third of the use of my left hand - that probably explains why I'm so dim

There is an old saying: "If the left side of the brain controls the right side of the body, and the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, then only left-handed people are in their right minds."

Chalk one up for another southpaw...me.

Peace.

Right-handed ... but I only recently read that left-handers live an average of nine years less ... oh well, quality over quantity I suppose

I actually always wanted to be ambi-dexterous ... I had an uncle who was born left-handed but who was forced to be right-handed (They did that sort of stupid thing in the 1950s) ... in the end though it helped him cos he played field hockey in three Olympics and was famous was his dribbles in which he could shift the stick from right to left hand and back!

Lefthanded.. I've done some IQ tests because some teachers demanded from me, they had an impression (it wasn't a joke.. I passed the test) that I was "Highly gifted" (don't know the exact translation.. hoogbegaafd in dutch)

there was also a thing with being dyslectic and creativity, of the combination of being lefthanded and dyslectic (I am also dyslectic) is said that it is an plus, plus story. I hope it does.. Got a lot to learn though!

Left handed.

I remember once playing table tennis doubles at university and suddenly noticing that the other three players were left handed too. Freaky.

neither...I'm maladroit, equally clumsy with both hands.

Futrurama fans- I have what Fry's holophoner teacher described as "stupid fingers".

but I guess I favor my clumsy right more than my clumsy left, so there you go.

As an aside, the word "ambidextrous" is somewhat misleading.  To be trult ambidextrous, you must be able to do the following five things equally well with both hands:

-use a fork, knife and soupspoon
-throw a ball
-hit a baseball (i.e., switch-hit) and/or play tennis and/or golf
-arm wrestle

As you see, the first has to do with dexterity, the next two have to do with sports, and the last has to do with strength.

For example, I play guitar and drums "right-handed" (i.e., the drums set up for a right-handed person, the guitar strings in standard position, with the neck to my left), and my right hand is "stronger" on piano.  However, I cannot do any of the four things listed above with my right hand.  Thus, I am not ambidextrous, though some might think so watching me play drums or guitar.

Peace.

Lefty myself. I can't say I know my IQ, but both my parents are mid 150s.
Seem to be a large # of Leftys here. Maybe you've hit upon something.

So  maani, I guess you could say that you're a freak yes?

I used to write backwards  as a child, I remember my teacher telling me to go look in the mirror with what i wrote, and it looked normal in the reflection. I can write backwards farely accurately now.

So  maani, I guess you could say that you're a freak yes?

I'm 100% right handed and I've got an IQ of aprox> 160, but still I'mn a dumb arse. Does this mean that my rightiousness overwhelmes my enormous intellectual powers and leaves me with nothing more than left winged ideals?

I trully am stupid

I may be a "freak," but not because I'm right-handed in some things and left-handed in others!!

Peace.

I, too, play guitar/cello right handed. That only means that my fretboard-
hand is better, which is far from a disadvantage.

These statistics are turning out to be remarkable. I don't know if this
proves that prog is intelligent music or that left-handers are smarter.
Probably both

IQ tests measure nothing but your ability to pass IQ tests - for most of human history, the ability to solve fatuous logic puzles has not been a particularly useful survival skill. You should never trust the judgement of anybody who brags about having a high IQ.

It was also told to me that therefore creativity with lefthanded people are higher, the time to co-ordinate the left hand is faster (yeah.. really.. uuhm .. sounds really stupid  )

I also play righthanded guitar, and in my case.. I have HUGE advantages of that, because the right-hand work of hitting the strings cost far less strenght and agility then the left hand (in my case at least), and yeah I also play without plectrum, can't get the right word for it...
