I'm not familiar with the genre short of having a few Magma albums.  I'd like to know what you reccommend me and some of the newer traits of the genre (stuff that came off of Magma or earlier Magma to get into.)

In case you're wondering, I have Magma Live, MDK and Wurdah Itah.

How's Shub-Niggurath or Happy Family or the like?

My first suggestion would be  Eskaton's "4 Visions."  DUN "Eros" is a great album, though different.  Ruins is good, and I heartily recommend Koenjihyakkei's Ni.

I second the Eskaton's 4 Visions recommendation. Its one of the "lightest" and accesible Zeuhl album of the ones I know of.

If you like Magma then Koenjihyakkei  - Anghers Shisspa  is a wonderful album to check out.

Shub-Niggurath's Les Morts Vont Vite is Zeulh more in the vein of chamber rock like Univers Zero or Present, but IMO more darker. So if you enjoy those bands mentioned then you wont  have any problem with it.

I'll add some unusual suggestions.

Vangelis - Heaven and Hell

Koenjihyakkei - Angher Shisspa

Dun - Eros

but for the ultimate zeuhl experience buy more Magma albums, they're quite unique.

I wouldn't place Shub-Niggurath and Happy Family in the Zeuhl category, I would much rather have both of them in Avant-Prog, because their music isn't very Zeuhl-ish. Both are good, but I vastly prefer Shub-Niggurath, I found Happy Family to be rather boring.

For real Zeuhl, I recommend checking out Eskaton. Potemkine is also a good bet. Dün's album is very good too, but again, it's something I'd rather see in Avant-Prog. Don't forget to check out Koenjihyakkei's Angherr Shisspa (which unfortunately is the only thing I have by them).

The Swiss band Island's only album Pictures might be of interest aswell. It sounds a bit like VdGG playing Zeuhl. Found in Art Rock on this site, which is fine with me as their music isn't Zeuhl although it's similair.

There are also Zeuhl rarities such as Eider Stellaire, Archaïa and Kultivator, all of which are very good but very hard to find. But remember the names, in case you come across anything by them.

Bondage Fruit, first album

Eider Stellaire, probably the first album but I can't really remember which one was my favorite

Eskaton, yes I second this!!

Koenji Hyakkei, can be very fun, but a little too intense sometimes

Kultivator, check out the album "Barndomens Stigar" - did you ever think you'd hear zeuhl from Sweden?

Magma, buy more...

Present, "High Infidelity" is my favorite, but you can't go wrong with any of theirs.

Koenjihyakkei, obviously. For classic Zeuhl check out Eskaton and Dün!

BTW, Happy Family isn't Zeuhl at all IMO. They're more avant-prog to me. Their Toscco album is brilliant and is highly recommended if you like avant stuff!
