Uhm.. but Wuschel, I can't understand you:
Are you "suggesting" (not in an explicit way) to put Abba in the Archives because, as they are Swedish like Opeth, and maybe they sound more prog than Opeth to you (do you like Opeth, anyway?), they deserve to be here. Right ?  -------------

Yeah but.. well... this is an old question, I think you should ask the Symph Prog team or something like that. Even if you got a 100 to 1 result in the poll, I don't think that counts so much (IMHO).
By the way, I like Abba, but I don't think they are prog. Good Swedish pop is all you will get from me.
Man but do you really think Abba is prog? Seriously ? Opeth are fantastic, I won't explain the reasons why they're here, because I think it's boring and everybody knows it.
Maybe Abba could be here as prog related... uhm.....  -------------

Well...abba is mainly a disco/pop band. They started out sounding like some average Swedish "dansband" . Some progressive elements in a couple of songs, maybe, but not prog. Btw they were one of the biggest hate objects of the Swedish prog scene in the seventies. Some songs with potential for being good, but with arrangements that are a total failure imo. Yes, this is a ridiculous poll. Abba of course. Opeth aren't Prog in the least. Erm, well, that's not quite true. The death grunts are quintessentially Prog, but other than the growling, not proggy at all.. |

 Anyway I have an important question: why do people spend much of their time bashing bands they don't like? I mean, f**k, you don't like Pink Floyd, why saying Pink Floyd are f**kin' crap? Just don't listen.
 You hate Dream Theater? Why wastin' time doin' a one star review on Images and Words? Just take your cd and put it in your basket case!
Ehy Wushel this isn't directed to you but it's a general consideration I made here, because of some recent reviews I've recently seen here.

I rather prefer Incantation's "Mortal throne of the Nazarene" or Impaled Nazarene for that matter...

 The only thing I'd agree about this thread, and I think noone has ointed that out, ABBA was better to look at than Opeth... I mean, Akerfeldt is not my type... -------------

Not really... Listen to "Ghost Reveries", listen to "Ghost of Perdition", see how they work out themes and the relation between all of them, it's a 10/10 song, first time I heard it it was like "what???" because the structure is so damn ab-normal... After like 5 listens, I realized that was THE song in the death-prog-metal field....And to top that, the acoustic moments and Akerfeldt's strangely sedated and narcotic, yet very satisfying voice, and even his growling is among the best of all growlings.... Opeth's last album is a 4/5 star, maybe a 4.5. Damnation is excellent too. The earlier ones haven't yet gotten to me....
Abba, on the other shore, has... Dancing Queen. Which was wonderfully performed, not by the original band, in the 2000 Olympics in Sidney.....
Abba was very close to "prog-pop" (whatever the hell that means  ), but please don't put them alongside Opeth... if someone doesn't like the not-so-strong Christian values of Ak, well, I suggest Neal Morse or even better, Mayhem. -------------

ABBA? No way, no way at all, absolutely no way at all.
ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest 1974 with Waterloo which probably is why the (partly prog swedish) Movement loathed them.
Dancing Queen of 76 was their biggest hit (Their only no. 1 in US) and after that they did a Disco record.
Well crafted Pop music (Which you don't see too much of these days.) but nothing more really. Opeth can suck as much as they wan't, they are still much more prog than ABBA.

Don't know Opeth, so I won't vote.
Abba is not progressive, not even when they conjugated songs together. Even Chess, Björn and Benny's concept album / rock opera, is not progressive. You can only stretch the word "progressive" to a certain point.
Very talented songwriters, though, Björn and Benny. A musicologist once studied the way they opened their Abba songs, and that was always different. I don't listen to their albums, but I respect them.
