Only cigarettes and rolies (hand-mades). The odd cigar,never the even ones and the occasional banana.We have unoccasional bananas in our friut-bowl but they don't taste as good. -------------

No, and I don't plan to. I'm not totally against it, however, and I think the government has gone over-the-top in the past few years in regards to banning it in certain places and such. I actually like the smell of some cigarettes (especially kreteks).

I used to smoke two packs a day, even more, I think about 30 cigarrettes a day. Now I smoke....0 cigarretes a year.... It wasn't as hard as I would've thought, to be honest. I just stopped buying once I arrived to America.... -------------

Actually, it isn't illegal in Colorado. City of Denver votes to legalize possession of up to an ounce of cannabis. It is only a matter of time until we realize it is a wonderful thing

I wonder if they realize how much money goes to other contries for drugs. The greed of America is so strong I am surprised they haven't acted on it yet. The denver thing kinda doesn't work for some reason I really can't recall. Something about the federal government.

the big pharmacists want us hooked up on THEIR drugs (Lunesta, prozac, etc)... That's why they make up all kind of illnesses: "does your back hurt in the mornings? check your doctor" "do you wake up facing the wrong side of your room? you may need Lambionol"..... Cannabis' legalization would take a couple tranquilizers out of business... -------------

The difference is a small amount of alcohol is not harmful, and can be healthy because of the hop and whatnot in the drink. If you drink, you don't have to get drunk, although I know with the crappy beers you get in America you wouldn't really want to do that.
All I can say on the pot is, enjoy schizophrenia! How can you act like the stuffs harmless? However I do think it should be legalized so people shouldn't have to resort to going to criminals to get some, which could result in future drug addictions of worse types. -------------

You have to be a regular, heavy user of cannabis to start suffering such ill effects, unless you have an existing condition. Like a lot of things, cannabis, in moderation, can have beneficial effects. |

| I smoked for a brief period of time and then gave it up when I damaged a nerve in my hand. I was told it would grow back much more slowly if I continued to smoke. That was fine though, as in a way I only started smoking to prove to myself that I could quit. |

I think Peter here pointed out what might be the biggest problem with smoking... it cost money! And quite a bit! 30 years ago 1 in 4 people smoked. Doing a quick mental calculation on the poll-results so far I see the anti-smoking lobby has managed to reduce that to a staggering 1 in 4.25.

Did I say that? And healthwise it is. Your liver can recover from a few years of abuse (so my biology teacher tells us). Although if you carry it on throughout your life I guess you're a bit screwed.

I do smoke. Regularly, not just at parties, and I know that it's bad for me, etc. etc. I also would advise anyone who is not a smoker to never smoke, even at parties, because you are right, that can lead to addiction. I also drink regularly, and that's pretty bad for you too. Drinking doesn't just affect your liver, but your heart, blood pressure, etc. That being said, your last comment about being screwed if you drink throughout your life, don't you think we're all screwed anyway? The very act of breathing means that at some point we are going to cease breathing, even if we stay away from all vices, drinking, smoking, sex, red meat, eggs, and the list goes on and on. Vices may shorten our lives, and may in some circumstances make the manner of death more unpleasant (although I don't think there is a pleasant way to die), but the fact is that in 100 years, all of us on this board will be dead of one cause or another. But without vices, I think the years we spend here would be pretty boring. ------------- I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you? |

Reviewing statistics provided by my government, the 60s were the peak for smokers. Close to 50% did. The 70s saw some improvement in those numbers. By the 80s, though , with the health fad & more PSAs (public service ads) the numbers came down quick. In Canada the estimate is less than 25%. Remember, once a smoker, likely always a smoker. And if I remember correctly, there is some concern about the way certain CIgarrette ads seem to target kids. Seems Big Tobacco is concerned about the difference between the numbers who quit or die, & the insufficient numbers to replace them. For myself I don't smoke. I did for years "second-hand" smoke though. I quit in February after 20 years, and I've not smoked since, and have not wanted to.
I had to quit because I had pneumonia. It seemed stupid going back to after a month, by which time the addiction had passed, and I had broken the habit. It's the habit that presents the biggest challenge. Nicotene itself is out of your system vey quick after stoping. This has been my fifth attempt at quitting. So far so good. Good luck to all of you who want to quit. |

I do smoke but I can easily go without it...if it's there I'll have it, if it's not then I can easily go without. I don't like smoking pre-rolled cigarettes, I prefer rollies.
