I love Atomic Rooster but their best albums are after Palmer left. Thoughts of Emerlist Davjack is IMHO the first prog album and the best Emerson has done. The rest of their albums leave me cold.... ITCOTCK is the obvious choice but Lake is the most bombastic, pretentious, pompous (but gifted and a good voice) musician ever. (sorry 3F8 So I chose none of the above. |

Sean... you should bite your tongue (among other things) Greg was definitely not the bombastic one... and pretentious could be attributed to everyone on the face of the planet.. He is a totally gifted musician and voice, as well as producer.. he's got an ear of gold... and he only gained in talent after he left King Crimson. His decision to leave KC was the best choice he ever made. As you can see, he and Bob would of ending up killing each other if he had stayed. Regarding those 3 bands... I, of course selected King Crimson. The voice is the most important thing in KC and ELP to me... HOwever, I love Keith's piano moments.. so I like "Five Bridges" also. I've only heard a couple of the Atomic Rooster's albums after Carl left.. I wasn't all that fond of them. However on your list, you left out "The Shame" ------------- THIS IS ELP

Bit of a no-contest really isn't it? ... while the Nice was
always flawed (Lee Jackson's vocals didn't help) and Atomic Rooster
didn't see the full flowering of Carl Palmer (that first album did have
a couple of stunning highly depressing tracks in Banstead and Winter)

In some ways it's an unfair contest. Atomic Rooster and The Nice had pretty much run their course, and evolved into ELP. King Crimson were however still setting out when Lake left, and went on to produce many albums afterwards. If we're just taking Lake era KC, there's not much to go on. Perhaps the Gods would have been a more "equitable" choice for Lake, although they wer efar from prolific either. By the way, the Gods were a sort of supergroup in reverse, in that the members went on to find fame far and wide. |

Hi three fates your dead right...had a single in 1968 with 'Too old to go'/'Dreams don't bother me' (Greg lake) You have notice to exclusion of The band ''shy limbs'' who had a single with 'Reputation'/'Love' from '69.'(Greg lake) & the band ''The craig''with the single 'I must be mad'/'suspence' from '66 (Carl palmer) & with Chris farlow & the thunderbirds with the single 'Yesterdays papers'/'Life is but nothing' from'67 (Carl palmer)
