I like the "Octafuzz" ... technically it's two effects (pitch shifter + fuzz/distortion), but it's usually offered in one stomp box or effect setting.

Does anyone have any youtube examples of various effects?

I used to like Flange, once used by Alex Lifeson a great deal.

Wah wah is not often heard these days but was prevalent in the early '70's. Chorus and echo I used to like too. As for modern pedals, I don't know enough.

Why don't you buy a multi-effects board ... some of them are really affordable, and you can experiment with the various effects and find out which one you like best.

I'm a fan of flanger and phaser, you can make so many weird sounds with them Tongue Delay is also great fun, especially with tremolo picking Cool

I don't really like multi-effects pedals, I used to have one....the affordable ones' quality of each effect ranges from pitiful to decent at best, and the high dollar ones are really high dollar...just my opinion Smile

Yes, a classic Ibanez pedal ... it's built into most multi effect units, including my Vox Tonelab. A very useful effect for "boosting" your sound during a solo, adding extra distortion and sustain.

So you think a pedal for 50 EUR will sound better just because it's only implementing one effect?Wink

I'm going to go with the classic Electro Harmonix Big Muff Pi, but the Wah and Uni-vibe are close behind.

As for multi effects, bah I like having a maze of cables and a baffling array of knobs and switches (I really should get a modular synth I'd be in heaven)

A good distortion is a must. The classic Ibanez one is nice, and there are numerous good distortion pedals by smaller brands around.

^ when it comes to distortion you should try to get a pedal with a real tube ... like my Ibanez tube king:

I'd get a good phaser or a decent chorus if I were buying a new one, considering the type of music I play, and the great distortion I have in my amp. here's what I've been looking to raise money for http://www.voodoolab.com/chorus.htm

in my opinion the best single effect ever...not a stomp box really, but a unique little effect...an essence of all prog rock effects.

And here's an http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1445380315012222385&q=roland+space+echo - example.
