Deep Purple and Led Zepplin are, of course, two of the founding father of metuhl. However, Purple ain't part of this; Rainbow is.
Both these songs are sort of long, right? And somewhat Eastern in flair. That is, I don't really know; I've heard Kashmir (everyone has). I've never heard that album Rainbow Rising, but I do own a live album. In fact, it's my only Rainbow album. Live in Churmany or something. And the version that is pretty keen.
So I'd reckon I'd say the Rainbow song for me. Yeah, pretty sweet. Overlong? Maybe. But so's Kashmir, and Kashmir don't got Blackmore, who kicks Page (no offense) to Mordor and back.
And, should this need be moved since these lads am butte prog-gressive-relations, yeah. That's kewl.

Against No Quarter? Naw, I want this to be fair, not a mystical blood bath. Although...

Kashmir, since is has been rearranged and recorded by many more musicians, and most versions reveal additional facets of the tune.

I haven't heard any Rainbow yet. And about Kashmir, well I don't think (let's keep the war metaphors) it should be sent on a "rock songs" battlefield; it's not necessarily great as "rock song", however it's larger than life from many other perspectives - I guess this says in a different way what Mr. Heath already said.

Kashmir is a classic. Stargazer is great, but it won't ever burn up the radio waves , eh ...

Where is your star? Is it far, is it far, is it faaaaaaaaaaaaar?
When do we leave? I believe, yes, I belieeeeeeeeeeve!
"Stargazer" - such a powerful song, such majesty! No, seriously, I love it.
Check out the cover made by Mundanus Imperium on their one and only album, The Spectral Spheres Coronation (with the great Jorn Lande on vocals), a very good rendition despite a not so spectacular guitar solo.

"Kashmir" is great, but "Stargazer" wins hands down with me. Being a fan of Blackmore, Dio and the late, great Cozy Powell, you can understand how this choice of mine came about.
BTW, I don't think the two songs sound like each other at all. If you really want a couple of "Kashmir" soundalikes, check Deep Purple's "Perfect Strangers" and "Rapture of the Deep".

'Kashmir' for me.
'Stargazer' is certainly one of Rainbows finest songs.

Agreed - Kashmir tends to send me to sleep - I don't get all the fuss about it.

Holy crap! This thread!
If I could (and I would), I'd do it all over again, tossing in "Gates of Babylon," "Poweslave," "Rare and Precious Chain," "That First Track Off A Bedlam In Goliath," "Still I'm Sad" and "I Can't Put My Finger On It." Call it Metal Eastern or something.

On Kashmir we hear the better singer, the better drummer and the
better guitarist, the better band as a matter of fact! *And now I'm
getting ready to get slaughtered*
