Maani: is this really what you expected would be filling the pages of your otherwise good website. Personally I ignore everything the guy says - and will ignore the sarcastic reply he will most probably post to this - and I'm all for free speech - the guy can blather on 24/7 for all I care - I just think people thinking of joining the site might see these pages of illegible rubbish - and go somewhere else - robbing us and them of potentially illuminating discussion.

I mean ...cant' we give him his own thread were he can ramble to himself all day - and the rest of us can avoid.

mandrake (awaiting completely predictible childish repsonses)

The brunt of it is this - just name me 40 prog/psyche/hardrock songs which involve the theme of "death" and I will vacate the premises. You will be free of Yosh and his rambles.

Can I put it any clearer?

Have I given you any impetus?

G'wan, Jocks. The clock be a-tickin'.

Well, I'm not going so far as to wish you death ... though I do wish you'd
either learn how to write, or quit writing in that quirky jargon-laced
jibber-jabber.

That said, how about Marillion's Brave. It's all about a girl contemplating

Wallace you enjoy being on here, you obviously enjoy prog/rock music just change your broad use of the auld Scots language a little I'm pretty sure you will be understood. And Reed what are you all about telling the guy to go I thought you would have been above such nonesense.I agree with Wallace in that the list you provided I've hardly heard of any of these and I'd bet London to an orange that you haven't either.Wallace don't know how I forgot Come away Belinda from the Heep's first eponymous lp but tnx for pointing it out.One last point if you are going I'll remember you as the man, who ate the boiled ham raw.

Okay -had tae go wipe a tear.
.....
Sae then, here be me partin' wards.

Fairst an oft-quot'd, shart lesson tae th'wise. A tale, me Jocks, consarnin' preecious commoditays: experience an' Vision:

An awld bull an his young'un cum aroun' 'eur corner an' a vista opens up afowa their een (eyes): Th' pasture aheid rises onna steep slope tae meet wiv 'eur plateau up on 'igh.
Onna plateau be twintie coos (cows).

Th'yoong bull gits awl exciter'd an' -joompin' up an'doon - says tae hissen faither:
"Da, thaim's bonny, strappin' coos up thare. Lets ye an' ah rin (run) up th'slope an' each buck a body (feck one) ay thaim!"

Faither bull he luks a' son inna manner registerin' disappointerment.
Patiently he says :
"Nae son, this is t'way its gonnae be: We ur gonnae DAUNDER (stroll) up slope,
an' den feck 'em AWL!"

.......

Yer gits th' meanin' - brush aside yer blinkers.

......
A ward tae th' handfule here -yew kens who ye are - who acturally ken summat about th' music tha' REELY matters:

If ye spend a year wi' cripples, ye jist may limp at th'end ay it.

Those sincerely wishin' tae larn mair - summat orther than wha's been funnell'd doon yer Gregory (craw) by th'puppetmaster "Suits" wic jist pedal manipoolatioon, roll oot t'armys o' clones, an'sell wha's only leftover : a stolen beat an' feckin' Image (tae legions o' fad follawers pump'd oop tae jump ship atta next port o' "cool"); fer thaim sincerely desireous tae learn mair, ah says:
Git yer arse awa' tae GALACTIC ZOO @ Yahoo Groups. (No newbies PLEASE!) Ye'll learn many a 70's band o' merit which nivvar made it ter cd. Ye'll mebbe learn how tae SEEK oot warthy music fer yersell.

Believes me, Yosh leads ye right proper onna straucht smaa gait.

Th' rest o' ye -bide haur. Dis "crew" desarves yer "talents".

I've seen you speak in a way people can understand you, why don't you do that all of the time? If you couldn't help it, I'd understand, but it's pretty obvious you can help it.

I agree with Reed and Aqualung, I have nothing against Wallace, I believe the guy knows a lot about prog', but he doesn't care a sh*t if we can learn something from his knowledge.

I believe it's unfair that some people from non  English speaking countries like Cesar Inca, Mirco or even myself make the effort to write the best that we can in a foreign language, try to think in English when we automatically think in Spanish and  sometimes pass our posts by Word's Thesaurus for respect to the other members.

And by the other side a guy who obviously is totally fluent in English doesn't cares if some of us don't have the chance to understand a fuc**ng word of what he writes.

Why should we care if Wallace knows a lot of Prog' if he obviously doesn't want to share it with us or even worst he doesn't care if we understand a word because he's very busy trying to be funny?

To see the evolution of wallace, go back and search his early posts and you will find 100% English.  Make what you want out of that.

A Scottish fitba fan told his mate, "My dug watches all the games. When my team wins it jumps up and doon and claps its wee paws. When we lose it somersaults."
"Yer Kiddin me right? How many somersaults?" asked his impressed friend.
The Fitba fan replied, "depends how often I kick it..."

Enter the Velvet Clown with a little Scottish anecdote.Ivan for you and Cesar there is a reason to be perhaps pissed off at Wallace but not the others,if he is indeed a Scot ,he chose to communicate in a language that even the Scots on the forum had slight problems in the translation. But to reiterate, his words harmed no one and once carefully looked through there is indeed alot of good stuff there. One more for the road Wallace,Queen 'Death on two legs'

A final word on wallace and his pecular dialectic (of both prog and diction)

A surfeit of knowledge is only useful if one has the good grace to impart that knowledge with goodwill, understanding and the will to inform and enlighten. Using that knowledge as a stick to beat others with, or as some kind of pointed weapon of oneupmanship is 1. rude and 2. churlish.

Wallace's posts on the forum have by and large been a better educated version  of the some of the reviews other have complained about so vociferously, coming straight from the school of 'your band is sh*te. Why? because I don't like them.' Only in Wallace's case the put downs were also wrapped in a self-satisfied superiority complex - 'your band's sh*te. Why? Because I don't like them and I'm right because I know a lot.'

There are many, many musically well -informed members of the forum who regularly post and offer insight, advice and have a great store of knowledge to draw from - Dick Heath being one but there are others who have given me an education in some of the more obscure corners of prog.

Most of these members impart their knowledge in a friendly, clear, helpful manner. Wallace by contrast chose to set himself up as above all that and simply visited as the great arbiter of taste and one with a particularly obtuse and wayward grasp of Scottish slang.

He might know a lot but if you alienate those who might be seeking some knowledge then all the wise words in the world may as well be screaming in a vaccuum.

He should come back when he's learned some humility and gained a sense of humour - and a grasp of written English

The really objectionable thing about Wallace's sub Irvine Welsh routine, aside from the bizarre mix of dialects and shaky grasp of phonetics, was his failure to grasp that the contributors to this board are international and several of our most prolific posters and reviewers do not have English as a first language. Wallace's posts were heavy going for us native speakers, and from the responses he got I'd guess they were incomprehensible to everyone else. This was pointed out to him by some of the individuals concerned, but he chose to ignore them. If he'd simply been posting stupid jokes on the Mariah Carey thread, fair enough; humour is notoriously difficult to translate. Choosing to post in this deliberately obscure manner in the main discussions was both arrogant and ignorant.

Does he really know his stuff? I know that I applauded his knowledge a page or two ago, and I haven't read all of his posts, but since then I've had my doubts. Throwing around a few obscure names and titles doesn't make you an expert on anything. I can name five great Polish hard/prog - bands of the 70s and 80s that aren't in the archives now (Czeslaw Niemen, Dzamble, Breakout, early Budka Suflera, Exodus) and can recall more if I have the time, but does that make me and expert on them? No way, I've listened to some of their music, but I can't say I know the stuff.

I can list you the names of nearly all Egyptian pharaohs. Does that make me an Egyptologyst? No, I've simply got good books around here and can find a reference within ten minutes.

When I suggested a Devil Doll album as a candidate for his list, he referred to the spiritus movens of that great band as "Doctor Doctor" . It's MISTER Doctor. Sure, he could've been just playing with words, but he didn't use a comma. "He th'Mon", he wrote. If he really th'Mon, then why didn't Wallace remember his name? I think that he only listened to the band once or twice, grew tired of it, but then learned that the name Devil Doll opens many secret doors within the prog community. So he pretended to know 150% about the band and flaunted his "knowledge". He then probably confused Mister Doctor with Major Major (a character from "Catch 22"), another name that serves as a key within some circles. I don't really know.

Besides, contrary to the widespread belief, "obscure" does not have to equal "great". It's not like every band that failed to record an album is THE HOLY GRAIL THAT WILL BRING THE PROG BACK TO PROG. Many of them are simply not worth listening to.

To end this confusing, overlong (prog ) post, I just want to say that Wallace's "fare-unwell" post has more than a hint of his condescending attitude towards us, thankfully drowned out by his pretentious, artificial language (don't the Irish, not the Scotsmen say "fecking"? Correct me if I'm wrong here). So, sorry, Fragile, Aqualung, but in my opinion the guy half-deserved the hate-posts he got. He alienated the people who don't use English as their first language and most of those who do, too. Luckily, whatever he wrote can be used against him, but I'm not going to be the one to kick a departed horse.

But what do I know? I'm just a hopelessly lost newbie .
