March 4th I'm going to go to Paris for three days. Joining me are two friends (my roommates).
Does anyone know any good music stores in Paris? (where you can get good prog music, of course)

Here's the best for Prog, psyche and folk:
-Gibert musique, bd Saint Germain, RER Luxembourg or Saint Michel.
-All the "Fnac"

For used records , one might check out Cro-O-dile close to St Germain. Also the FNAC superstores have small prog sections (but not in everyone of them) but nothing extraordinary in terms of choice.

The Virgin Megastore on Champs Elysee was once impressive in terms of prog but last time I went......

I agree with Oliver, Gilbert M. is the best,(the only shop which has a Italian Prog section, you will find some Banco there) they have a good prog section and they have 2nd hand records filed correctly, the FNAC at Bastille got a nice Prog/Psychedelic section, FNAC St.Lazare got a Prog section, Megastore Champs E. has a good selection, but only Neo Prog is filed, all the rest is filed under rock (they have a lot of imports, the only place where I found Echolyn).

Darn it - just got back from a long weekend in Paris - and we spent most of our time around St Germaine...
I doubt it would have been appreciated if I'd spent my customary leisurely time in one of those places on our first visit, but next time...

Speaking of Magma, if anybody knows of any shops in England (not
online) that happen to stock that sort of thing (I'd quite like vinyl,
but only if I can get them all on vinyl) then let me know, and next time I'm in the area I'll give it a look.
Damnit, I really shouldn't spend money I don't even have..!
Ah well, next year I'll be a student!

There's a great little record store just near the Pantheon (I think) - can't remember the street - if you're facing the pantheon veer left and head down the hill towards the rive, it's on your right hand side somewhere down there - good selection of 70s music but the prices are steep enough....

Yes you're right
Gibert and Fnac bastille are the best for prog/psyché, although la Fnac des Halles (Chatelet les halles) has a good jazz/fusion section.

Go to "Virgin" big shop, but not that at the Elysee - I'm talking about situated closer to Monmantre (don't know the exact sddress, unfortunately). There's a lot of famous and less-known Progressive releases (and many of them have special prices - use them ). The only strange and funny thing that almost all the Prog records (Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis, Peter Hammill, Frank Zappa, Porcupine Tree, Mike Olfield, Gong, etc.) were founded at the department named... ..."POP-MUSIC"! But King Crimson was in the "HEAVY-METAL" department
Wish you a good trip, Joren!

I'm leaving next Friday (March 4th)
Thanks to all of you for your good advice. I made a list of all the stores you mentioned:
- Gibert musique, bd Saint Germain, RER Luxembourg or Saint Michel.
- Fnac (Batille, St. Lazare, des Halles [Chatelet les Halles])
- Virgin Megastore (one Champs Elysee, other one closer to Monmantre)
- Croc'odisc
It's going to be a busy three days!
Thanks a lot!

We had a lot of fun! I just love the Louvre! So much to see there, I'll have to go back once...
Here's what I bought (all pretty 'rare' albums that I couldn't find in the Netherlands, or only available via import):
- Captain Beefheart And His Magic Band - Strictly Personal - Gentle Giant - Acquiring The Taste - FZ - Civilization Phaze III - FZ - Frank Zappa Plays The Music Of Frank Zappa: A Memorial Tribute - FZ - EIHN - Everything Is Healing Nicely - FZ - Joe's Corsage - FZ - Unmitigated Audacity (from Beat The Boots)
I found them all in the Virgin Megastore at the Champs Elysees. It cost me about 150 euros, altogether. I didn't have time to look for other shops (I needed time for the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Sacre Coeur....).

So was that Virgin good?
What's the JOE'S CORSAGE?!
------------- I Prophesy Disaster...

Yeah, it was FINE

"Joe's Corsage" is a collection of early studio outtakes from The Mothers Of Invention, from before they released their first album. The title is of course a hint at "Joe's Garage"... but the Joe in "Joe's Corsage" is actually Joe Travers, the guy who is constantly finding and dusting off previously unheared Zappa recordings. Because when FZ died, he left I believe thousands of hours of music on tapes. Now the Zappa Family Trust are trying to release as much of it as possible, on the "Vaulternative" label. Those albums are only available at http://www.zappa.com - www.zappa.com , and since I don't have a credit card, I was very pleased to find some of those CD's in Paris.
