THE PURPOSE OF THIS CONCERT IS TO CLOSE SELLAFIELD 2 OFF THE CUMBRIAN COAST FOR GOOD BEFORE IT CAUSES DEATH AND SKIN CANCER. HERE ARE THE FACTS: SELLAFIELD 2 WILL PRODUCE 7.5 TONS OF PLUTONIUM EVERY YEAR. 1.5KG OF PLUTONIUM MAKE NUCLEAR BOMB. SELLAFIELD 2 WILL RELEASE THE SAME AMOUNT OF RADIOACTIVITY INTO THE ENVIRONMENT AS CHERNOBYL EVERY 4.5 YEARS. ONE OF THESE RADIOACTIVE SUBSTANCES KRYPTON 85 WILL CAUSE DEATH AND SKIN CANCER.

There are a few false facts in your text.

 

 

Sellafield is a centre for extraction of different spent nuclear fuels, like La Hague In France. Sellafield does not create plutonium, since the plutonium already exists in the spent fuel elements that comes on the site for treatment. I know the team that that goes and controls the extraction and actually trace the wastes (this is NOT a job I'd like to do ) , they work for Euratom and the AEIA.  All they do on that site is extract it and concentrate for a better treatment of the waste. If the place works the same as La Hague, the only military presence is for the security of the installations, not for the productions of bombs.

 

 

But in general, such places as Sellafied would be best closed, IF there were other solutions for our energies wasting needs. If the fact that in Central Western Europe has seen only three days below O°C this winter is not worrying you, let's go to burn coal for electricity!!  VERY, VERY, VERY , VERY  UNFORTUNATELY, Global warming is unfortunately making nuke power a necessity.

 

Until better and cleaner energy solutions are found, La Hague and Sellafield are sadly needed to be kept open!
