You Are What You Isn't

And you still haven't said why you don't like Broadway. If you just tell me then I'll get off your back (and it has to be a better answer than "because I said so" or anything to that effect).Wink

Okay Cyg, to quote the greatest review ever...

at this time Frank was with one of his most inconsistent bands ever. They didn't perform well together, the music didn't flow, and everything seemed very strained when compared the gelling that was achieved by The Mothers of Invention and The Petit Wazoo Band

"Planet of the Baritone Women" is a musical train wreck that is a headache waiting to happen, so just skip it. The headache continues into "Any Kind Of Pain", which is a horribly sappy love song!?!?! Frank, why? This is one of his worst songs ever. Ever! The three tracks that follow create a 10 minute filler period and then "Promiscuous" starts. Let me explain, it is a rap song about anal sex. What was Frank thinking here?

put on "Murder By Numbers". Frank comes on and tells a story about how met a man named Mr. Sting in the elevator, and then Sting from the Police comes on and gives a speech about the devil and whatnot then bores everyone to sleep with the intensely repetitive "Murder By Numbers"

This is a truly horrific piece of music that combines free form jazz with rap and heavy metal riffs, love songs and dirty bedroom humor. There is only about 5 or 6 minutes of actual enjoyable music on the entire album

Satisfied?

I'll vote Playground Psychotics this time. It's a fun listen, though far from essential.

Sorry, but *all* tracks on that album are performed extremely tight. Frank said himself that this was his best band (the best band I never heard in my life Wink), it only collapsed because of Frank's illness and some ego problems of the musicians.

"Planet of the Baritone Women" is a musical train wreck that is a headache waiting to happen, so just skip it.

Love to sing along to that one ... especially the "ha ha ha haaa-aa ... dat - dat .... hey!" part. I can't sing the big 'ol cadenza though ... Wink

The headache continues into "Any Kind Of Pain", which is a horribly sappy love song!?!?! Frank, why? This is one of his worst songs ever. Ever!

I like it. Great humor!

The three tracks that follow create a 10 minute filler period

Filler? Rhymin' Man is side-splittingly funny, and the other songs are not too interesting musically, but quite entertaining nonetheless.

and then "Promiscuous" starts. Let me explain, it is a rap song about anal sex. What was Frank thinking here?

I suggest you read the lyrics ... but you also didn't seem to understand Joe's Garage, so it's probably hopeless.Wink

I like it a lot - and the people in the audience seem to agree. Not every song has to have a dozen signature changes. And Frank liked it too!

This is a truly horrific piece of music that combines free form jazz with rap and heavy metal riffs, love songs and dirty bedroom humor. There is only about 5 or 6 minutes of actual enjoyable music on the entire album

Still, a lot of people think it's a good album. Speak only for yourself!LOL

BTW: Here's some info about the song "Promiscuous" ... which you describe as a "rap song about anal sex": http://www.arf.ru/Notes/Broadway/promis.html - http://www.arf.ru/Notes/Broadway/promis.html

It's actually about AIDS, and how some people on American television were dealing with the subject.

Hey, when I say it makes my ears bleed I'm only speaking for myself.

It doesn't bother me that alot of people love this album, it just doesn't appeal to me, okay?

A fair few of these aren't studio albums, but no matter. Only One Size Fits All really does it for me of the ones I've heard, but 200 Motels I found particularly self indulgent- I simply don't like Flo and Eddie's vocals.

Yeah James, "Ahead of Their Time" is live. I wish I had spotted that before I posted the first round, but it survived so I guess it stays. If I had noticed, then I might have added some other live albums too. "Roxy & Elsewhere", "Just Another Band From L.A." and "Zappa In New York" are essential, in my opinion.
