Subject: Adding albums

A recent example http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive_rock_discography_CD.asp?cd_id=14562 - http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive_rock_discography_CD.asp?cd_id=14562

shows that some mebers hastily add albums without providing sufficient information (in this case - lineup members and release/label info).

Is there a possibility to limit adding albums to only those where all the required fields have been properly filled?

Or at least to authorise Collabs (and maybe even PRs) so they can edit their own album additions. At the present we can edit only album type and release details...

I agree, but it's probably very hard to check that the correct details have been entered as it's a free-form text field.
Perhaps someone could check new additions and then go back to the adder if some details are missing?

mailto:M@x - M@x is keen to leave the facility open to all.

It could be argued that adding an album with details missing is better than not adding it at all. It would help if the member at least put up a thread seeking the missing gen though.

Some members kindly keep an eye on the new additions though, and highlight deficiencies, errors, duplications etc.

Although this is not in the responsibilities that I have defined for our team, we will try to keep an eye on those additions, but any help fo people here is appreciated. We are in the process of doing an all-database sweep of completing missing discographies (and we have had our "ranks" re-inforced lately), so are priorities are elsewhere for the moment.
Thanks for letting us know.

When that first appeared I spent an hour looking for more info but didn't come up with anything reliable so left it as it was for now .... as Bob says, its probably better to have an incomplete entry than none at all.

What annoys me is those people who create incomplete entries when the info is readily available. There was a DVD entered the other day in which virtually nothing was right, not even the DVD's title,  yet it only took a little while searching to find the info ... sheer laziness IMO

Yes, I agree absolutely. I thought only if it could be possible somehow to warn any future album adder  to  do best to  include  as much  valid info as possible.  If Iam correct, there was a time when adding an album without cover prompted a popup box reminding a person to add an image.
Of course, adding any (if incomplete) album info is better than none. Especially if collabs can amend them later on.
I admit it is not always easy to find valid info, and you can argue that it is enough to have the title, track listing and cover image. Lineup and release info are not always found (I am talking of web pages, not physical discs).

As a bit of a newbie here, I've only just discovered that while you can add albums, you can't amend them! I made a couple of minor omissions while adding entries today, and uploaded the wrong image for one, and don't know how to fix it. Also, by sheer coincidence, I spotted a new entry for the new album by a band I've just left (Litmus), posted by someone who not only hasn't put track lengths, but has left me off the musicians' list...  :-(

Hi,
Go here and start a thread about what are the details you want to add/edit and the Errors Team will take care of it.

The thing to do is report it in the "Errors and something" section. Sorry my memory is awful sometimes.
