Recently, I've became a fan of Pain of Salvation, sparked by the purchase of Scarsick and settled with an even better album (the one after entropia). Getting all of their albums and even enjoying an album I slammed last year with a 2-star rating (BE). Mostly, it is because of the emotion and the amazing vocal performances of Daniel.

I consider him the "Peter Gabriel" of metal , because he puts his heart into the music.

PS: sorry, but I consider "A Perfect Equation" their weakest.

One Hour By The Concrete Lake is indeed a very good and overlooked album. I've never really gotten TPE myself, but from what I understand it's a bit more difficult then their other releases, so I'm still awaiting the inevitable realization of its masterpiece status or something =P

A great singer that somehow turned 10 years old instead of 30+ (I don't know his age)... I had never seen a man drop that many years in the course of a single album...but please, Daniel hates everybody. Big%20smile     Remedy Lane is his masterpiece and if you want emotion, listen to undertow.... "let me break the things I love I want to cry", hear him singing that line and learn about a true singer, not the angry-third-grader of America....

I love five of Pain of Salvation's albums and tolerate the sixth. Remedy Lane is my favorite and his vocal performance on that one combined with the story of that album made me instantly adore it. I'm still confused as to what happened with Scarsick, though.

And the point?

The vocals are one of the things I like the least about PoS.

Agreed with Phileas.

The vocals sound bland and uninspired to me.

Its my opinion that Daniel Gildenlow is possibly the best vocalist of the last 10 years, probably by a long way.

Did they do the terrible Scarsick stuff, Ed? Wink

I think one of his best vocal performances is actually on Entropia.

Oh and the unbuttoned shirt look is rather disturbing... and it's not because I'm straight, it's just a weird thing.

He messed up the lyrics TWICE in Scarsick LOL

them 1st time they stopped playing, left the stage and re-entered, telling us to repeat what we did one minute agoBig%20smile

He messed up the same line the second time, but still, they started improvising and went into the chorus.

No mess-up apart form those two. Disco Queen was such a killer! So was "Hallelujah" from the Shrek Soundtrack...

setlist almost the same as in Gothenburg.

Why are they doing Shrek Soundtrack songs?

And that just proves how trite Scarsick is! LOL

I thought his singing was great with the Flower Kings Big%20smile

Actually, I really love Remedy Lane, and his vocals are a big part of that.  I like Scarsick, but would probably rank it last out of their albums that I have heard (never heard Entropia or One Hour..............worth getting for the casual fan or not?).  TPE is a somewhat difficult album, but I like it well enough, though I rank it next to last Smile

One of the greatest vocalists I've had the pleasure of hearing. I love his dramatic, variable style. He definitely added to the songs he sang with The Flower Kings too.

However, Zitro, I think we feel the exact opposite about their albums. I think Scarsick and One Hour By the Concrete Lake are their two worst efforts. Particularly their most recent. One Hour...has a few amazing songs, but a lesser quanitity are a bit weak. Scarsick has only two excellent songs (Disco Queen and Kingdom of Loss); the other ones are lacking. For seven minutes of song they hardly get anything accomplished with them, I think.

I love the other four, and I think the sequence from The Perfect Element through BE are all five-star albums.

I think it's a whole lot of fun, and for such a wacky experiment it really wasn't too bad. It also is one of few songs that leaves a melody in your head after you listen to it.

It's a good song especialy live, quite a weird experiment, but it clicks.
I have more problem with the predictable nu-metal standards on Scarsick, and the abonination called America.Cribcaged starts nicely but it turns horrendous after the first few notes.
Nobody should miss Entropia who is interested in Pain of Salvation's works!

The problem is you're SO WRONG... I mean, If you had told me you had a crush on Steve Howe or Geddy Lee, then I'd understand, for I sometimes have fantasies about me and them in dreamy, prairie-like landscapes... but Daniel?? Daniel hates America... Ergo, he probably hates you.

I went to see them live yesterday at a club here in Copenhagen and wow, did Daniels voice sound great.. I was amazed by the his ability to vary his voice from rapping, to singing low and gentle (undertow, Halleluja, Jeff Buckely cover) to bursting out in screaming emotion (ashes, plus many other songs i didn' knew) . Another great thing i noticed was how the band acted on stage, they really seemed to be enjoying themselves, and looked very happy.  So, thumbs up or PoS!
