How long has this been? Why is this? How many of you really think CTTE is better than FOXTROT? I'm shocked I never thought FOXTROT would be lesser than #1.

Close To The Edge is the best album ever made period Foxtrot doesn't even get close (IMO).
Foxtrot is a good second though.

Close to the Edge is one of my favourites albums and I do think it would be the number 1... Anyway, Foxtrot is great too!

Close to the Edge is Yes' finest album. If Yes is arguably the best progressive rock band (come on, who's gonna bite ) then CTTE MUST be #1.
At least in my books that's the logic, don't know about other people. Some might say Krim's ITCOTCK is #1 because of 21st but that basically means that Foxtrot is number 3, if not actually after Selling England. How does Foxtrot get #2? I mean, I can see it, but I think ITC is second only to CTTE.
Just my 2 cents, once again.
Peace, Gaston

Well. I'm sure my views on Genesis don't need repeating, but I will
just say this: CTTE is the album that made me care about music. It
opened the door of prog to me. I therefore feel it's perfectly right
that it should be at #1.

Close to the Edge is way ahead foxtrot, no doubt. CTTE #1 is fine, Foxtrot maybe #10, some KC needs to be higher ranked ....

Wierd, I'd expect most to like foxtrot better. in my opinion both of those albums are about the same. The best Yes and somewhere in the middle for Genesis.

NO comparison between 'CTTE' & 'foxtrot'...although 'Foxtrot' is a fine album listerning to Genesis at the time sounded rather dated compared to Yes ...Even the advent of 'Selling england',ELP had smashed us in the face with 'BSS' with Yes doing the same little later on with 'Topographics' hence definatly the two most advanced prog bands at the time.

i'm VERY surprised that the replies are unanimous! I would say that they are both outstanding albums, but i slightly prefer Foxtrot.

Says the person with a Blackwater Park avatar.
Anyways, CTTE is clearly far superior to Foxtrot. It`s my personaly favourite of all time... I'm sure quite a few would agree.

Relayer and Fragile are my two favorites, but I'd also rank The Yes Album, Going For the One and The Ladder above CTTE. It's not that it's a bad album, it's more that the title track kinda loses its focus and gets really boring after awhile. And since that's half the album, it kinda brings it down for me. So yeah, Foxtrot is better.
Nice one Abbath, how long did it take you to think up that genius zinger? I'm in awe of your wit and intellect.

I also prefer Relayer to CTTE, but the latter has greater historical
(and personal) sigtnificance, so it'll always be #1 for me. As for the
title track "losing focus"... I would have said it's one of the most
brilliantly arranged epics of all time!

The collaborators top 20' seems to be nothing more than a fansite
'click-as-many-times-as-possible-and-win' kind of thing. Seriously,
everytime I see another band high, the next day suddenly genesis is
back. Gee, I wonder why...
Honestly, CTTE and Foxtrot are both nice prog examples, but not the
best. I would rate albums like Godbluff and Fragile and Larks' Tongues
above those two anyday. And really, something from Gentle Giant should
be at one. No band rivals their musicianship, originality and
spontaneity.

There's no conspiracy or anything untoward about the Collaborators' Top 20. "Foxtrot" moved (back) up to the no. 1 position after I added my (5-star) review of the album yesterday. Simple as that. If it's at the no. 1 position it just means that the sum of all the Collaborators' ratings for that album is greater than the sum of their ratings for any other individual album in the Archives. Currently, based on all the reviews posted by Collaborators to date, it's the Collaborators' most popular album. No doubt "Thick As A Brick" will move up a position or two when I get around to adding my 5-star review of that one!
