I really don't like it, as I think Absolution's their best one. I found it very "empty" and quite boring....

Not a 'great' album, but a good album. A step down from Absolution but still good. Has a lot of songs I like on it.

if there was a middle option i would have chosen it as i think it is good. Having said this i was rather dissapointed with this album, it just doesn't have the power or eccentricity of the other albums.

I liked it a lot at first, it's went down. I like Absolution and Origin better.

I agree about Absolution being there best...however I can't imagine why you find Black Holes ''empty'' and ''boring''. Very harsh words.
Having saw them live before Christmas the new material holds up well against the old material. They've added more electronics to the sound which sounds good to me.Overall its a good mixture of pop/rock and a few proggy moments. I did read your review ....just wondering but did you actually get to the end of the album and listen to Knights Of Cydonia?

The last album from Muse is excellent and very various...
The first half do not "sound like Muse" but is very original and the second is epic !
... if only they could replace Invincible

It's quite good, though not a true masterpiece.
Although, I do LOVE 'Map of the Problematique'

The intro is unique and mindblowing !
And the whole song is beautiful, powerful and melancholic

I voted great album but not there best.Saw Muse live a couple of weeks ago and they opened with Knights of Cydonia.Blew us away and left me deaf for Tool who were on next! Thought the new album stuff was great live. Was interesting observing the crowd singing a long to BHAR material but not knowing the older stuff.I think that sums up what Muse were trying to achieve in writing for a more mainstream audience.

It's really a great album, certainly one of the top albums of last year. It's only topped by Origin of Symmetry in Muse's discography

I like it a lot... but of course we all detect the similarities between this singer and thom yorke.... none dares to accuse him of plagiarism, but if it was a single note played by a certain band.... ok, anyway, very good album and I liked it more than "absolution"... This poll should be in the prog-related lounge anyway...

And why do you say it's DT I'm talking about??
They sound very much alike, the tone, the style, please... Muse's singer is copy/paste of thom yorke.... but I like Muse's music better than Radiohead's...

I honestly can see why someone would call the album empty and boring, but I think it applies to certain tracks instead of the whole album.
I think several of the songs are very good, but after track 4 it starts to lack something that Absolution and the best of Origin of Symmetry had.
Still, there's a lot of good stuff on the album. However, I hope it is a slight misstep for Bellamy, as opposed to being a sign of even worse things to come.

I've changed my mind on this, I think it's their best. Doesn't get better than Knights of Cydonia.
Anyone see them on the Abbey Road sessions on More 4 last night? Great performance of Map of the Problamatique

I avoided Muse for years because when I initially heard them all I heard was a guy trying to sound like Thom Yorke. After playing "Knights of Cardonia" on Guitar Hero 3 my mind was changed and I decided to go buy Black Holes & Revelations and I love it. Its a great album, but I don't know if its their best since I haven't heard their other albums yet.

i hear a similarity between yorks voice and belamy's but its really only that. a similarity. Belamy's no carbon copy and has a distinct style that sets him appart from york. I like Origin of Symmetry and Absolution much better than black holes and revelations but there are some good songs on Muse's newest. the last three songs are particularly good.
overall id say its a good album but a step down from absolution and origin of symmetry.

I recently acquired this record and was quite impressed with it. The Thom Yorke comparisons are evident but actually I hear a lot of Bono at times. Based on this thread I'll try to pick up Absolution one of these days.

It's true! That video is incredible.
I love Black Holes... but I only have Absolution as well, so I can't say which of their albums is best. I like Absolution, and some moments in it I prefer to Black Holes..., while some moments in Black Holes... I prefer. Like Map of the Problematique, as previously mentioned! I haven't decided which album I like best, but I like both a lot :D (My Mum laughed when she first saw the tracklisting, saying it truly was like the names on a Yes album. Since getting into Yes I must agree)

Love both 'Black Holes' and 'Absolution'. Not all the songs work for me, but the drama and bombastic, over-the-top playing and singing is just perfect for the jaded palette. The world needs MUSE. Some of our modern prog bands could do with a bit more drama, I think.
As for Bellamy sounding like Yorke, they both sing in a high register, emphasise the taken breath and sing with angst. Apart from that, they have quite different tones. I doubt Bellamy tried to imitate anyone, though I hear quite a few QUEEN-style harmonies on 'Black Holes'.

It's OK, kind of disappointing overall. I really like Knights of Cydonia, but it's about the only song I like on it. Actually most muse albums only have a few songs I enjoy, but this one is their least enjoyable overall for me.
