Brilliance, his best since Security. Personal favorites are "Darkness" and "I Grieve".

I have only three of his albums (3, So and Up) and Up is truly his best. At times bordering on masterpiece. I'm ordering "Us" today so I have four.

Very Good.......Gabriel's work will age well too, which speaks volumes for the music. Up IMO was a huge improvement on Us ( inconsistent). I just hope I/O will be worth the wait and a slight change in direction. I am afraid that all gabriel's side projects might just delay the next album. He is currently working on the Blue Ball project scheduled for release this year. I am looking forward to that too....

What's the big number off Up? I don't think I know that one...

In a way, you could say it got me into prog, but i can't say it's anything more than good. I can understand all of you who do, however, but there's something about it that ust doesn't click for me, maybe Gabriel's voice.. I greieve is great, though.

I like the album, but it's too downbeat for my personal tastes... great sound work, though, as usual.

There really is no big number from that album. It didn't get very much (if any) radio play. "The Barry Williams Show" was intended to be the big single, but it didn't fit along side of Linkin Park, and Pink. Besides, that's not really indicative of what the album really is. It's a dense affair, and takes a while to reveal itself. When it does, it is very good.

Fair cop; I wouldn't say that Steam is the most representative of "Us," I just wanted to know if I'd heard the album (I haven't, but I know that song. Quite amusing that).

UP is my favorite Peter Gabriel. I think it's his best. Every song is incredible with my favorite being Signal to Noise.

It's a good album but I find that I don't play it as often as I do "Us" and I think that's because I was going through a tough time emotionally when that CD came out and I could identify very closely with it. In other words, I'm biased.

There are some excellent songs, some good songs, some pretty good songs. Give the guy credit for not just churning out pop drivel like many of the artists his age.

Production-wise, it's excellent but Gabriel's voice in this album is abit less than stellar. BUT I've seen the Warm-up Tour clips on youtube, his voice sounds better than ever! Hopefully I/O comes out sooooon.
I like all the songs on Up
except
More Than This (urghhh/blah mediocre pop song) and also, I actually thought The Barry Williams Show is one of his better songs on the album.

Gave me one hell of a shock too when I first listened to it on the 'phones!
It's a good album but it hasn't grabbed me in the same way as most of his other albums. I've played it quite a bit but it hasn't sunk in at all, I guess it needs more listens.

I find it a really mediocre/generic pop song, I'm sorry but this ditty seems to be more appropriate for a Backstreet Boys album. "More than this, more than this, more than this.." repetitive and annoying. And what happen to his vocals? He sounds as if he's tired singing. Believe me if I said I tried liking it but I always end up hating it.
Luckily, there's only one bad song on Up.

I like the first half of the album. But I usually get annoyed about 90 seconds into The Barry Williams Show and turn it off.

What a great album!
Certainly my favorite solo PG album. Rivals the Genesis classics in my opinion. Growing Up and Darkness are both absolute masterpieces and a great atmosphere throughout.

I can see where you'd get at it being a Generic tune, but I think it works. The sound is complete, which is good for me since the openness of "My Head sounds like that" which had potential, but I think was the worst song on the album. Nothing happened! It didn't even build, and I think the vocal was definitely worse then anything in More Than this. I think trying to keep everything complex and needing to pay attention to everything going on is bad for an album. Now and then you need a break. But even still, there are plenty of filling subtleties that I enjoy. And the repetetive "More Than this" I think was a good ending, with the slowly building music in the background. Worked with the meaning.

I do agree that More Than This has a better ending but the beginning til the middle turns me off completely and for some reason, the imaginary picture of BSB singing this song keeps recurring in my mind.
My Head Sounds Like That has a bit of ambient quality which I like and imho, it's a more mature work, if compared to More Than This.
