and Magical Mystery Tour is out of the starting blocks!

I picked it because it only contains one song that aged dreadfully.

After spending my youth with the likes of Pallas and Biglietto per l'Inferno, I got into the Beatles at 30, and into The Beach Boys at 34. Is that normal? From what i read here, I'm not alone.

Which one?

btw I never count this as a real Beatles LP as they never recorded it as an LP. It's a compilation of an EP and some singles that were out around the time. Admittedly some pretty damn good ones.

I dearly love all the Beatles albums, they are each unique in their own way, but i gave my vote to "Rubber Soul", something of a transitional album between their "bubblegum period" (as George Martin described it) and their subsequent deeper (Prog ) period. They were still touring but settled down to write some rather reflective lyrics around the time this album was made, laying the foundations for the mind-blowing "Revolver" which was to follow.

There are some very mature songs on this album such as Harrison's "Norwegian Wood (This Bird has Flown )"  ( proving even rock stars can't score every time! ) , "Michelle" - a simple song but clever use of foreign language which all flows together perfectly, "Girl" - the frustrations found in a one-sided relationship (been there!),  and "In My Life" - a look back at Lennon's own life ? , also a nice baroque style piano solo in this song.Smile

also look at what they're wearing on the cover photo - gone are the dark coats and sharp suits and ties, in comes suede jackets and roll-neck jumpers,  far more casual Beatles!

The White Album: pure genius!
Their capability of mastering any musical genre is in full display here. And their intuitions really shine through!

Then come Abbey Road, Sgt. Pepper and Revolver, practically all three on the same level!

Rubber Soul is also great, since it marks the first definite step towards a more mature kind of songwriting.

Although Harrison's sitar accompanying Lennon's guitar is an evident ingredient, "Norwegian Wood" remains primarily a Lennon tune with a little help from McCartney.

Tough vote. I went for Abbey Road.

2. Abbey Road
3. Let It Be
4. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

I'm listening to Revolver right now... It's just perfect (except for "Yellow Submarine"...).

Eh I guess so but Magical Mystery Tour is my favorite album by the beatles, I don't care if it was meant to be an album or not. With psychedellic songs like Blue Jay Way, I am the Walrus, and Strawberry Fields Forever I can't chose anything else. ANY album including and after Rubbel Soul is incredible though.

Top 3 are The White, Rubber Soul, and Magical Mystery. I think Revolver's way overrated.

My personal favorite is Beatles For Sale for simple, clean songwriting. But Revolver, Pepper's and White Album are each superb. Let It Be is also great for straight forward rock `n roll jamming.

1.- Abbey Road: Masterpiece, side two is perfect and side one is excellent also.
2.- Let it Be: Another outstanding album.
3.- Sgt Peppers: Good but IMO not the masterpiece people tend to believe it is, honestly I like more the Rolling Stones version of it Their Satanic Majesties Request..

All the Beatle albums you've listed on your poll are probably the greatest rock albums of all times. So this was a difficult decision to pick which one could be considered their greatest.
But I will say that one of my favorite is Sgt. Peppers. It could be said that it was a precursor album to what became Prog, Psychedelic and the album that changed the recording industry and dare I say the music listening world.
Some would probably argue that there were other albums or artists more significant or better, but this is the one that made the biggest impact on a commercial and artistic level.
I had never heard and ending like A Day In The Life, or a sitar, various keyboards, orchestral sections with lyrical vignettes about growing old, a meter maid, alienation, Eastern philosophy, and fantasy excursions of Mr. Kites and Lucy InThe Sky With Diamonds all rolled into one album.
And the music just got better with their following albums, Rubber Soul, Revolver, Abbey Road, and the other ProtoProg album, Magical Mystery Tour...

To me it's the White Album, it contains so different kind of songs. Anyway I love every album by The Beatles.

I think Abbey Road is for the average prog rock listener the best Beatle album. High quality songs and a multi-movement suite. Good production too. I voted Abbey Road as well.

Haven't checked out Let It Be, but Iván's recommendation makes me curious.

Try to get "Let it Be... NAKED" is what they call it. The original had too much production and that version is how it was originally recorded. It's much better in my opinion. A lot of fans think so as well.

I've recently become a Beatles fanboi, and I voted for Sgt. Pepper. It could be it's because I've heard it way more than the others, though. And I finally ordered it the other day, along with Abbey Road and Revolver. I should have them tomorrow! *drools* Anyway, I love 90% of their material. They seem to be as consistent as I wish Queen was.

Although Abbey Road is maybe the proggest Beatles' album, my vote is for Sgt. Peppers; as for historical importance as for personal likes   Smile
