I prefer used CDs because they are cheaper and you can find some good albums in a used CD shop.

As a typical jobless teenager, I went for the used albums. They're just so rare near me

every object that has been produced out of natural materials give (by touching, smelling) a great sensation of new, of freshness, i can't give you a better explanation... of course CDs contain little of natural materials, but there's also the abstract idea of having a new object that turns on some strange appetite. don't you find unwrapping the CD exciting? ![Big%20smile](smileys/smiley4.gif)
anyway, i'd buy used CDs if i could.

I prefer new CDs, because the difference in price is usually not very
big. I only buy used CDs if the price is low and there aren't too many
scratches. And yes, I smell them too.

^ I picked up CDs in used CD stores for as little as 2 EUR ... that's quite a difference!

^Wow! In Finland (at least in the record stores I've visited) most used CDs (at least the good ones) are around 7-9€. Even at flea markets it's rare to find anything good for 2€.

Of course I don't find such bargains everyday ... but I usually pick up a couple (3-5) used CDs each month, averaging at 4 EUR.

It depends. I'm not going to pay the prices some shops charge for CDs. I also find it is good to wait a while. The prices of remasters usually come down. But, a lot of things I am looking for can't be found in a mainstream store. That's when used shops come in very handy. You just have to find places where the proprietors are music freaks too. They tend to stand behind their inventory. I have returned a couple of things that slipped past watchful eyes.

I only like Used Cds when it's the only way i can get some albums, some rare albums. But 98% of the time I prefer a new CD, I kinda love the shiny case, without fingerprints or scratches, I like to take the cd off the case, turn it upside down and see that it's crystal clear, no lines, no dirt, pristine. And I try to keep them that way.

I only buy used CDs if they are out of print (which makes it hard to find a new copy).

New if possible or the price isnt silly but I wont say no to a used CD at a good price if I cant get it new.

Both are equal to me, but used CD's tend to be cheaper, and you usually can't get new copies of obscure, out-of-print stuff, so used for me!

Oh, used I think. Great finds for great prices and I haven't noticed any audible flaws on a used CD in a long time. But it's best if you have a good used record store in your community.

Whatever is cheaper/available at the moment. New ones are better, but I've never had a problem with used ones either.

I'm a bargain hunter, if I'm paying more than$10 for a good album I'm paying too much.

In London there are 3-4 good used record shops all on the same street!

All my life I always bought new CDs. And I have promised myself not to download songs (illegally).

I just read about what is called, in our local copyright law, the "suite" rights. It means that the owner of the copyright is entitled to a small percentage (5% if I'm not wrong) of the value of the second purchase of the artistic object, also the third, then the fourth, the fifth and so on until his copyright expires. Do you have this aswell in your countries, and - if yes - do you know whether the "suite" rights actually get collected by the original artists?

I don't really know about that, besides I live in Australia now . Also if I have the CD with the cover and the CD and all the things, I can still keep it until I'm old (hopefully). Then I can imagine when I'm old I'm looking at the CD with a smile on my face, remembering the old days ![Embarrassed](smileys/smiley9.gif) ![Embarrassed](smileys/smiley9.gif) ![Embarrassed](smileys/smiley9.gif)

both. if im looking for something this isnt close to being new, ill try to find a used copy. but certain bands, their albums i dont buy used.
live albums from favorite bands ill buy used. but studio albums have to be new. dream theater, rush, genesis, all my copies are new.
but stuff like......fiona apple, jazz albums and the like......used. cd prices are way too high to always buy new.

I prefer secondhand cd's/lp's, because it's cheaper, and my local used-store only sells discs in mint-state, so I'm not foolish and don't buy new.
