I choose Yes - To Be Over. The way the arranged the vocals, guitar and background help create a truly magical musical passage that lifts me up when the album finishes.

For me it's definitely VdGG - Childlike faith in childhood's end. (outro, that is. Such emotion, and after 40 minutes of pure bliss, it makes the whole world a little bit more beautiful) Favourite intro right now... CAN - Halleluwah! Haha... it just get's me going every time i hear it..

Supper's Ready and Musical Box, but they're obvious.
I like the endings of Yes' "Parallels" and "Release, Release", especially the latter which ends on a bass guitar and bass drum thud.

Supper's Ready has IMHO one of the weakest endings, I don't like fadings, such a powerful sog should have ended with the phrase The new Jerusalem" exactly the climax, then looses strenght.

To stray from the typical here...
"Three Spires" by Fruupp has an amazingly beautiful climax to ending.
"Sleepfall-The Geese Fly West" by Anthony Phillips is a truly magical and amazing ending to a song, and album. Add "Regrets" from his second album to that also!
Best intro I throw to "Tomorrow Never Knows" by The Beatles, truly awesome opening to an amazing finale song!!
And I agree that To Be Over is just mind blowing, this song will play when I die and fly throuvgh the universe

I on the other hand, think fadings are a great way to end a song if there is no powerful way to do it. It seems as the song goes on and on...and you want to hear it, but you cant. Of course not every fading is good, but I really like them as a general rule, althought they are not a favorite around here

Haha, that's what I wrote in a review (not published yet) earlier this week.
My favourite intro is a bit more difficult, having to choose between the piano on Locomotive Breath, the vocal on Dancing with the Moonlit Knight or Script for the Jester's tear, and the guitar and bass on Working Man. Depends on my mood I guess. Gotta go now - Working Man's next on the jukebox

There are too many for me to remember off the top of my head!
Supper's Ready obviously comes to mind - its superb climax can leave you breathless!
Gates Of Delirium is another, such a beautiful ending!
Devil's Playground has a tremendous climax, with Gildenlow sounding especially effective!
Masters Of Illusion has a wonderful 'epic' guitar solo to end it!
But there are so many....

For an intro, I can't beat "Watcher of the skies" by Genesis. The first time I heard this was in The Apollo theatre in Glasgow in the early 1970's. I had heard nothing by Genesis before I went to the gig, then Tony Banks played the mellotron intro in the total darkness. Shivers up the spine does not begin to describe the feeling.
Ending wise, I'd go for John Mitchell's guitar solo at the end of Arena's album "The visitor". It brings in various themes from the album beautifully.

That's the problem when we talk about "vacas sagradas" (I don't know if you use the same expression "sacred cows") like Supper's Ready that seem untouchable.
I'm a fan of Genesis and a hardcore one of the 5 men era but I'm not deaf but over all I Know what I Like, Supper's Ready has excellent sections like Apocalypse in 9/8 but if I had to stay with only one track from Foxtrot I would go with Can-Utility and the Coastliners...more complete IMHO.

Great Intros
"Return Of The Giant Hogweed" - Genesis; You immediately know you're going on a ride.
"Vidrar vel til loftrasa" - Sigur Rós; The piano is just perfect.
"Brave" - Marillion; The bagpipes and white-noise create this wonderful texture for the rest of the song to work around.
Great Outros
"Supper's Ready" - Genesis; Yeah, fadeouts are often lame. I just can't argue with the minutes preceding the fadeout. The singing is out of this world, and Banks just creates this sound that cannot be matched.
"The Dead Flag Blues" - Godspeed You! Black Emperor; The last section, entitled "(Outro)", is just pure musical magic.
"Pigs On The Wing (Part II)" - Pink Floyd; I'm putting this up there with the others mostly because it's such a great release from all the tension and darkness in the middle three epics.

Since you mention VdGG, I think one of the greatest endings was that of "Wondering" in the life version at the Royal Festival Hall in London almost two years ago. It led right back to the beginning of the concert, the lone opening flute notes of "Undercover Man", with Jackson playing them, slowly fading out, forming a full circle with the beginning. I could not have imagined a better ending; in fact no-one wanted an encore after that, and not only because Hammill had announced that this was definitely the last. It just HAD to be the unforgettable ending of an unforgettable event. I am usually not a great fan of that song and consider it to be one of my least favourite of VdGG, but this ending, and the lyrics of the song too, which fitted the occasion exactly, make me think they couldn't have ended this fantastic evening any better.

Something that comes immediately into mind for me is the Intro of the Aqua album by Asia. It is technically a track by itself but actually just an Intro. It brings the album title and the cover art together in a particular wonderful way. I whish there was much more of these atmospheric moments on the album and they had kept up the water theme more throughout the album.

Great topic.
The band is clearly Yes, with many song candidates ranging from Silent Wings of Freedom to That That Is.
But it's last few moments of Tempus Fugit that always give me the biggest head rush: massive organ riffs, stampeding drums, Steve Howe's lightning-like guitar, and the wacky Yes-Yes-Yes vocoder.

My fav actually comes in the middle of a song but it is an ending of sorts. JT thick as a brick when side 1 is closing. It took me many listens to 'get the joke' but now I have to chuckle every time I hear them trying to end. good stuff that.
Fade outs are something I generally like. DOn't know how many of ya have done this but on many fade out at the very end something changes. you only hear it if you pump up the volume to ridicuolous levels. I wonder if such things survive into the digital realm of cd's?

The Mars Volta - Miranda That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore
The meandering trumpet soloing with increasing background hiss and then the reprise of the repeating theme from the end of Cygnus... Vismund Cygnus, leading into the explosive/drunken sounding beginning of Cassandra Geminni. A bit long and "noodly" maybe, but I think it's pretty effective.
King Crimson - 21st Century Schizoid Man
The way it pretty much dissolves into total chaos at the end fits well, and contrasts with the controlled middle instrumental sections.
King Crimson - Lizard
Fading out with a quite unique guitar solo then coming back with some kind of circus music. An unusual way to end an epic song to be sure.
Henry Cow - Deluge
Abstract improvisation gradually turns into a somewhat melancholic song, providing a strangely significant-seeming ending to the album.
As for intros (although they weren't actually mentioned in the title), I always thought of Genesis' Dancing With the Moonlit Knight as having one of the quintessential prog intros, but that might be because it was one of the ones I heard a sound clip of on a website when I was first investigating progressive rock.
I'm also quite partial to the low-key introduction to Cut The City by the Mars Volta, which makes me think of abandoned airports for some reason.

I must apologize for bringing up a non-prog song, though I love it too much to not bring it up. The song is Pantera - Floods. The end, with the rain and the distorted guitar just sends shivers down my spine.
and also, I really enjoy the ending to Thick as a Brick(pt. II), it's so simple and easy, you know, they just jump back to the beginning and sort of "complete the cycle".
