I'm left handed, left footed, but luckily I am more to the right (side) in politics 
However I do most of the things that require precision with my right hand because I was taught to write with my right hand. ------------- "PA's own GI Joe!"

I am a leftie; I do the majority of the things with my left hand, including brushing teeth, writing, holding spoon/fork. Strings on my bass / guitars are turned upside down to fit the leftism. |

An interesting on-topic story - there's the case of a man who lost both his arms in an accident, the doctors were able to save one of his less damaged hands/arms by re-attaching it, but on the other side (because muscles and nerves on the left side were too damaged). Now he has his one hand - left hand on the place of the right hand, with his thumb facing inside. After a long therapy, he started to use a hand again, for smaller tasks and basic writings. Is he left- or right-handed?!?  |

I'm ambidextrous, but at one point in life decided to go for right-handed (basically after everyone told me I had to use the "beautiful" hand for writing and holding a knife. Yes, they still did that kind of bulls**t when I was a kid).

Ambidextrous, I'm bound to symbolically or realistically be that way, since I don't joke with my instrument. Gotta have the perfect balance in order to master my skills.  In the rest of life however, I'm not that ambidextrous, but right-handed. -------------

I'm right-handed, and my right arm is almost double bigger than my left one. I'm almost "handicapped" on the left side. Training the left side when you're right-handed requests brain parts that you normally don't use and it's good. |

Hmm - T and Melomaniac seem to be thinking along the lines I was when I read the poll title. Actually, my first reaction was 'my wife's hand', but looking at the poll, I can only admit to being left-handed, like my wife and my daughter. Our son is 3 years old, he's going to find out in the next 12 months whether or not he's going to be the household righty...

It's rather difficult to remember as for quite some time I've elected to use my tongue for normal "handy" tasks. Tongue-typing, for instance, may not be for everyone, but nothing says "How do you do?" like a firm, wet tongue-shake. That may have been a little hard to swallow, but as a matter of fact, I'm always "right." Almost my case (Not because of beauty but because of an old superstition), I was born lefty but in the 70's the nuns believed the left hand was unholy, so they forced the three lefties of my class to write with the right hand (I believe it was because they didn't had desks for lefties
 ). So I became an incomplete ambidextrous with an horrible handwritting, later the priests (When we end basic school we pass to from nuns to priests school) who had psychologysts and knew how harmful this is, tried to undo what the nuns had done for 5 years but it was too late.
When I played soccer I kicked with the left foot, but never was able to have a decent handwriting.
Thanks God they no longer do that because it caused me several problems.

^ makes much sense to me ... I'm left handed and play a "normal" guitar. Usually the hand on the fretboard "leads".

My ambidexterousness shows in a special phenomenon: Ask a person to shoot an arrow from a bow. A right-handed person will pick up the bow with the left hand, place an arrow in the string with the left and then shoot. It is the other way round with a left-handed person. I will automatically choose the left-handed version; in fact I just couldn't imagine to do it the other way round. I will also throw darts at a board with my left hand. But I will write with my right hand and prefer to do most other things with my right hand too, also and especially throwing a ball. So I throw darts with my left hand and balls with my right. It is unusual, but not ambidextruous.
Ambidextruous means being able to do the same operations at the same level with both hands.
I met someone like that once in my army service. He showed it to us. He wrote a paragraph with his right hand and then the same thing with the left and the writing was quite similar (small minor changes). He also used to open bottle and cans with both hands. He said he had no particular preference. And so forth.

Same here, to be honest I am surprised that most players don't use their strong hand for fretting and the weaker hand for strumming/picking, still the most important thing is to play in a way that's comfortable for you. |

I used to think that I should play a left handed guitar but I was forced to conform to society when I was told playing a right handed guitar upside down was not normal. I wish I could still do that but I can't. maybe if I tried learning it again with my right hand as the fretting hand. |

I know; I was totally ambidexterous as a kid, but, as I mentioned in an earlier post on this thread, I was forced to use the right hand. I can throw a dart with the right hand too, with quite an equal result; it just doesn't feel natural to me. But throwing a ball seems to be natural with my right hand, although I can also do that with my left hand, and with good results too. My ambidexterousness is buried in my childhood somewhere, because I was told to use the "good" hand and not the "bad" hand ("bad" in the sense of "evil; "böse" is German for "evil", and I was tought not to use the "böse Hand"). ------------- BaldJean and I; I am the one in blue. |

For example, to roll up the sleeves -- my right sleeve is always much neater than the left one. The same thing is with driving the ball (or how do you say this in English? -- lead the ball), say, in basketball. My left hand controlls the ball much better than the right hand does. I can write with my left hand, and the writings are quite readable (however, they are still not at the normal level). |

I'm a natural lefty, but when i was a child (during the '60) all people used to tell me that the left hand was the "bad" hand (
 ) so i had to learn writing using the "good" right hand  and now i can write with both hands, i'm a "forced" ambidextrous .
