just wondering what people's thoughts were on the grateful dead. regardless if you are into "jam bands", if phish is on this site, why isnt the dead? They were new at what they did.

The Dead are not in any way prog.  Prog rock is not just stuff that is new; if it were, the Sex Pistols and the Ramones would be here for being on the leading edge of Punk.

Also, Phish is here as Prog Related, meaning that they ARENT PROG, they just occasionally do things that might appeal to prog fans.

This topic was tried recently. The Dead are not accepted here (as Prog or related).
Too bad. I love the Dead,  the Airplane are enjoyed here. The Dead can't be far behind.LOL
Keep trying, however, word to the wise. Be prepared to to be "moved" and then sink.

You're perfectly right... The topic has been discussed both in this and in the Non-Prog Music section. Please use this thread, which was opened quite recently:

http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=32236&KW=Grateful+Dead - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=32236&KW=Grateful+Dead

If people are interested in discussing the issue, the thread won't 'sink'. However, I suggest that, when you really want to test the waters as regards a possible inclusion in our Database, you open a poll, so you can have actual numbers to base your claim upon.
