Guitar. How anybody can vote Joe's Garage out is beyond me ... it contains some of Zappa's best songs.

And Guitar is one of the greatest examples why Frank Zappa should be hailed as a God with golden fingersClap

Guitar for me also, Joe's Garage is linked to too many great memories.

Wasn't some of the stuff played by Steve Vai, Mike Keneally etc? As far as I recall, on tour he always had another guitarist - and he even called Vai his "stunt guitarist", he played stuff like Drowning Witch, Approximate etc..

Yup Steve Vai was the "stunt guitarist", but all of FZ's guitar albums (Guitar, the Shut Up N Play yer Guitar Series, and later Trance-Fusion) we're all solos that have been recorded from different live shows in the 70's and 80's, with zero overdubs. Every solo was played by Zappa.

One question: Why is this topic called 'Which is your LEAST favorite FZ studio album?' while 'Guitar' is actually a live recording?

Good question, let me explain. "Guitar" itself, as an album, is NOT a live recording. Every song on "Guitar" was recorded live, as they are all concert excerpts of guitar solos, but since they were not all recorded from the same concert (or ever decade in some cases) and since this was all previously recorded and thrown together in a studio, it cannot be called a live album.

Therefore, it is a studio album.
Got it?Smile
