Any fans of this great psychedelic band? They made two amazing albums, S.F. Sorrow and Parachute that rank amongst the greatest albums of all time. I don't much about their other stuff but I hear it's worth checking out. If you want some psychedelic music thats very well written, rocks out and it's overall amazing then listen to this band. -------------

S.F.Sorrow is one of the most overlooked and forgotton concept albums of all time. One brilliant piece of music. (wouldn't have Tommy without it  ).
Parachute is a little hit and miss. How' bout those rockin' blues tracks from the early years? Amazing transition.

I love SF Sorrow, a record which still sounds extremely fresh to my ears. It's widely believed to be the biggest influence on 'Tommy' but as much as I like that (though I hated that awful Ken Russell film), I feel 'SF Sorrow' has aged just that bit better. 'Parachute' is enjoyable too, but I think 'SF Sorrow' is my favourite of theirs.
The early stuff is nothing like that, but is still brilliant. Earthy, gritty R & B. |

The psychedelic phase was only a brief bit of their history, they were and now again an R'n'B band - in the original sense of the term. Check out the post-SF Sorrow recordings and you hear the band slowly slipping into becoming a mainstream rock band with significant R'n'B references. Parachute has its psychedelic going prog moments (indeed one or two tunes with longer work outs are better than the best on S.F Sorrow - but without consistency across the whole album) but even then R'n'B has come back in. ------------- The best eclectic music on the Web,8-11pm BST/GMT THURS. | There were lots of strong singles recorded in that 1968-70 period too- Defecting Gray and Talking About The Good Times are particularly strong psych tracks. |
