Well, http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=4 - Discussions not related to music is probably the best place, but I guess an active admin will move this thread where it deserves to be moved.
I just wonder why the poll says You can not vote in this poll, although I never voted here (I am a male). Welcome to the forums, by the way, make yourself at home.

One of our admins will place it in the right forum!!!
Welcome Wendy!!
You'll find that the vast majority of posters in this forum are males (unfortunately)
I still have to meet one male proghead that wished there weren't more women liking this genre of music.
We do have a small percentage of female progheads posting here, though. Some are all too rare (the lovely Lise ), others hold important Admin functions (Raffaella/GhostRider also ) <<< certainly would not want to cause any prejudice to moi

One could probably wish there were more women in his private or social life, but women especialy liking prog? - why's that? I know several women liking prog and enjoy conversating with them as much as I enjoy (or not) prog discussions with men, but I do not really wish there would be more of them. Actually I do not wish there would be more People liking prog, leave alone division by gender.

once I went to the university with my guitar, since I had free blocks between classes and had nothing better to do, I brought it there to practice in my free hour... Once I started exercising with it, my female classmates asked me to play them something... of course I thought about playing them a classical piece
When I started playing the girls were losing interest and told me to play them something more popular.. so they asked me to play them a song by a band called Mana (alternative mexican pop/rock band)... I had no choice but to play them "Muelles de San Blas"... the point is that most of the women I know don't take interest in anything resembling prog, while surely I've drawn interest of males when I practiced one of those classical Segovia pieces... of course I'm not going to make prejudice. I'm not asking them to actually fanatize with that kind of music, but to at least take interest in it when they hear it.

I like many other music styles as well as prog. It is not an issue if someone is more into soundtracks or acid folk or whatever. My girlfriend enjoys some prog acts, as a direct consequence of being exposed to my music collection, but she introduced me to electronic minimalism (Pansonic, Leggo Beast, Boards of Canada, Mika Vainio, etc.), and I must say I was blown away with the genre. Still am. Quite a step further in terms of creation and music as art and concept, and quite a relief for me in times in wich regresive bands had me wondering if that was it. Male, by the way.

What, you think only that statistic is off? We clearly need a new poll to see if there are really 134 men. Because I for one don't believe there are 134 men in the world who listen to prog. Based on personal experience, because that is always an accurate judge of the entire human population.
(Seriously, to all the men who are complaining no women listen to prog, you know other men who do? Because I don't. I know as many men as women who randomly listen to one prog band, often Yes, because their parents had a couple albums.)

And my point is I don't know anyone, male or female, who listens to much prog--I wish I did!
However, about the perception that women don't like prog, or older music in general...In high school it was definitely not okay for a girl to admit to liking anything not contemporary (the academic-minded crowd listened to Jack Johnson rather than 50 Cent), but once we were all in college I found out from Facebook that a lot of my former female classmates are into Led Zeppelin, the Doors, Jefferson Airplane, the Who. High school is weird like that. In college, almost everyone I know listens to some older
music. I've found the occasional Yes, Jethro Tull, and once ELP's
greatest hits in the shared iTunes directories of my dormmates (it is an all-women residence).

the 70s and Retro stuff).
If Sigur Ros, Radiohead, Muse and The Mars Volta (I guess they do) count as prog I do know a girl who listens to prog too.
