The news just keeps coming thick and fast!
According to Carbon Nation and reported on the Rush Powerwindows Site and Rushisaband Site ALEX LIFESON will join ROBERT FRIPP guesting on the new Porcupine Tree album.
To quote Powerwindows:
Alex Lifeson With Porcupine Tree: The new issue of "Carbon Nation", the Porcupine Tree magazine, includes the news that both Alex Lifeson and King Crimson's Robert Fripp will each be guesting on the next album by Porcupine Tree currently set for release on Atlantic Records next April. Both Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart have expressed their appreciation for the progressive rock band, and engineer/producer Paul Northfield has also worked with both bands.

I saw this earlier this morning... Fripp and Lifeson on a Porcupine Tree album... should be damn good. I wonder if their contributions will be limited to solos or whole songs, or perhaps even multiple songs each?
I can't wait for this, as well as the new Rush album! 2007 is shaping up to be a good year in prog (not that 2006 wasn't great, but it's always good to keep the great stuff coming!).

An artical on this Rush blog says that Lifeson and Fripp will be guesting on the next Porcupine Tree CD, due out next April!
http://rushisaband.com/
Do you see this as a confirmation that PT will continue on in the same direction that they had on their last two CDs?

I've also heard Decapitated Walrus are busy recording the new album and can't take part in PT's newest, which is a pity.

I knew this would happen, too busy indeed. One bit of success and they turn their backs on their roots. Too busy enjoying the superstar lifestyle more like...
...I'm not going to download any more of their albums as a protest, that will teach them.

I've yet to listen to Porcupine Tree, but I plan on getting In Absentia and Deadwing soon and now I'm even more excited about learning about this band. Besides I'll listen to Britney Spears if Robert Fripp and Alex Lifeson were involved.

Oh well, not too many people bid on DW albums... That's what you get for being signed to an Independant label.

Hm, now that you put it that way, it also makes a lot of sense.
Ok, back to the topic, I think Fred Durst isn't guesting on the new PT album either.

Mikael Akerfeldt and Adrian Belew contributed to Deadwing, so this is hardly a new departure for PT.

This news will truly make it a merry, merry christmas. Although I highly doubt it, a tour this year, triple billing PT, KC, and Rush would simply make me cry in happiness.
If Rush would include SW on one track of their new release, oh my.
OK...back to reality.
