Its a good idea in theory but rather a lot of work for someone to do an editorial every day.
Beside we hgave the recommendation forum and,of course, Erik's very nice Symphonic Prog appreciation thread.
Not an idea to be dismissed lightly though...

^^^
I am willing to do such as thing, but not on a daily basis. Maybe 1-3 times a week, depending on my schedule.
This would be essentially taking my I Recommend Thread and doing something similar but in another format.
Tony, if you think this is feasible, let me know.

I do like this idea. Perhaps it could just be a featured artist, with no specific time frame (day, month, week). That would take some pressure off. We could even do themes, such as genres, classics, new, forgotten, etc. However, I think the emphasis should be on lesser known items.

^^^ Good ideas here, HT. We can make a small two-three member team that will be in charge of this and decide each time what they will publish.
I volunteer. Who wants in?
All this of course is dependent on it being possible do have it on the main page.

Once upon a time there was a "featured album" spot on the front page. I discovered Circus and Comus throught it, and I'm sure I wasn't alone in this either.
Does anyone else remember it? And indeed where it went?

^^^ There was? well, that sould simplify things, just bring it back. Tony or Easy, can we ask M@x to bring it back, perhaps?
EDIT - I can think of several other people who should participate in this... (I volunteer Sean for one... He has enough reviews as it is, he can start recommending now)

Yep. It was a long time ago, back when I first joined, and it wasn't regularly updated. It was still a great way to find lost classics and underappreciated bands, though.

Oh you mean that weird, quirky, bizzare and meaningless muic you listen to??? I LOVE IT TOO!!!!
Have no fear, you were on my mind when I was thinking of a team. What more, the small team will do the actual work and prepare the theme and content but anyone can suggest what to publish there.

But what exactly are we aiming at? I prefer "album of the day" to "prog band of the day", but how would tht be done? An automatic random choice machine, or a pick by the members involved? And would there be new reviews, or choice of an older review considered as enlighting, regardless of rating?

I remember it too, in fact, I remember exactly the same bands featured. Though I never got further than downloading the tracks on PA.
(Ah, those where the days, when you could actually download the mp3s instead of the streamer. But I can undertand why people got upset.)
Don't know if any other albums than these two ever got featured.
I don't remember how long the supposed timespan was but both albums were there for quite a time.
A third thing I don't remember is where it went since it was a good idea.

Actually I like the idea a lot. To save work, maybe you could just select an album for discussion each day. Then on the band of the day page, an admin could pick a featured review and there would be something like a forum discussion link that gets cleared every day.
As a side note, it might not be too hard to make an algorithm that automatically selects albums and then stores them in a data-base so that they can't be chosen as AOD for a while.

Good idea, maybe not a team, only a list of 10 or 20 members that sign with Avestim to prepare one band and he tells us which day we need to have it ready.
If it works maybe morre people will join the list.

Landing here just now, folks... how should it be? A sticky thread or maybe a new forum? The first one is easy to do while the second one would have certainly a greater impact and attention, however we should talk with the owners and define the rules.
IMO the discussion should be centered around an album, being no more than one album per day to avoid clogging the forum and one particular thread for each album discussed. The starter should have the freedom to use reviews, ratings, general comments, etc, leaving the visitors to make questions, to add comments and so on. Once a genre is presented, another album of the same genre shall wait, say, 3 days or something.
Well, it's an idea...

It has been here a while, but i think it turned out too much work.
wouldn't mind to try again. It was nice while it lasted (only 1 or two albums/artists were featured)

Ok, I have no idea regarding the technical side of this, but as for how it can look, we can have a representative from each genre team or any other collab and member interested and each one can make the presentation.
I can be the "editor" and choose the order, propose changes, additions etc and we can have an album of the week (I think a weekly update should be fine at first).
If there will be no representatives, then I can take suggestions from members and they would make (with my help if they wish) the presentation.
It doesn't have to be a mere review, although it would be nice to have it in it. It can also have a background of the album, who plays on it and what, an in depth analysis of one song and everything else that comes to mind. Be creative.
Just some thoughts...

sure.. alrighty then... You just give the coordinates and I could probably work around it... e.g how should the presentation be "presented" (excuse the redundance); how the selection of the album works, etc.
EDIT: yes.. he played on "Amazonia"... you'll recognize him by the last name

First we need the platform and the ok from the M@X and the admins.
So let's wait for that before starting to plan anything. I wouldn't want you to waste energy for nothing.
