Appearently there's been a lot of previous controversy on this band. What do you really think about this band? Do you hate their guts and want them to die? Do you respect their music and/or originality?

I personally think this band is very good, an escape from the OTHER popular music of the day, in fact, their one of my favorite bands of today.

Oh, crap. If bad consists only of two instruments, how can it be good. Unless they are outstanding technicians.

If the band members are only able to play chak-poom chak-poom, they MUST be boring.

The only chance that two-members band could be possibly good is if the songwriters are one of those rare talented people capable to write simple but good songs.

Even in that case, their crativity will be exhausted in a matter of 3 albums or less.

Prefer the two man Black Keys, but even their 4th album, just released, is sounding a bit samey.

We can only come to the simple conclusion that you have never heard The White Stripes.

They're probably my favorite guilty pleasure.

And Get Behind Me Satan is actually their most intriguing album.

The inference I' making is that you hate them, yet never even heard them and are bashing them.

If you dig the White Stripes, check out the Black Keys.  I think they're a lot better.  They have a similar simple rock sound, but with a lot more heavy blues influence.

oh, and another one I just remembered.... Death from Above 1979 is another good White Stripes alternative.  They're mostly just bass guitar and drums, but they're pretty innovative and their songs are catchy.  Check out "You're a Woman, I'm a Machine".

The STRIPES were the most important band in modern rock. Only the good die young.

I used to hate the White Stripes, but I appeciate them for what they are now. Some of the tracks are great, but I agree with the poster who said they'd run out of creativity quickly. I don't think that has happened yet, but I can see it coming.

The thing I don't like about the Stripes isn't their music; it's the effect that music has had on other bands. If you can do the garage thing well, fine. But too many bands are copying the formula. One of the worst offenders is Spiritualized, which released its worst (in my opinion) album, "Amazing Grace," while trying to be more "stripped-down."

I've heard the song Blue Orchid by them, but nothing more than that. I like it a lot though, and I might check them out some time.

The guitar player is somehow talented, but the girl in the drums plays the same crap every single song, its so monotonous it makes me laughLOL. The band is not bad, but not good either IMO

Oh, by the way. Making negative comments about a band you've never heard is incredibly stupid.

I agree.
But, my comment was about band's line-up in general, and how possibly guitar/drum duet could make good music. I covered all possible parameters, and still I think my argument is valid.

I haven't been digging deeply into their discography, but I actually heard a few of WS' tunes.
I used to work in a huge record store and they were played on and on and on... Not bad overall, but not so terribly good either. Two basic rock tunes with bluesy-popish riffs, and one with a piano.
If you think they are good, fine, but my comment on their period of creativity will prove itself with time.

The duo Black Keys always surprises me by sounding like a 3 or 4 piece, but there are so many effect available to fill-out the bands' sound. Having said that, the trio Groundhogs back in the early 70's (time of the classic Split) were using octave-splitters to do that very same thing. But as to prejudice against two piece blues bands - the whole history of blues has included masterful two man or women bands, e.g. Sonny Terry & Brownie McGee.
