Yes-Close To The Edge
Genesis-Selling England By The Pound
Pink Floyd-Dark Side Of The Moon
Yes-Relayer
King Crimson-In The Court of The Crimson King
Pink Floyd-Wish You Were Here
Renaissance-Scheherazade and Other Stories

These are not what I consider to be the greatest or most important (whatever criteria one
uses to try to determine greatness -- influence, popularity...), these are just twelve of my favourites off the top of my head... I decided to
limit my choices to one album per band, and there are many other bands I'd like to
list (as well as alternate albums per band). In no particular order...
Gentle Giant - Acquiring the Taste
Focus - Hamburger Concerto
Gryphon - Midnight Mushrumps
PFM - Per un Amico
Bacamarte - Depois do Fim
Le Orme - Contrappunti
Carpe Diem - Ceuille le Jour
The Enid - In the Region of the Summer
Stars
Renaissance - Sheherazade and Other
Stories
Camel - The Snow Goose Kotebel - Omphalos (for something new) Maneige - Les Porches

I actually made a list like that a few weeks ago, i'll see if i can find it.. Okay, my favourites: 1. Comus - First utterance 2.Harmonium - Si on avait besoin d'une cinquième saison 3.The Mars Volta - Frances the mute 4.Yes - The Yes album 5.Caravan - If i could do it all over again, i'd do it all over you 6.Caravan - In the land of Grey and pink 7.Pink Floyd - Dark side of the moon 8.Yes - Going for the one 9.Pink Floyd - Wish you were here 10.Genesis - Selling England by the pound 11.Yes - Relayer 12.Frank Zappa - Hot Rats
ACtually, only the first 6 are really in order, the rest i just took from my "good, but didn't make the top 10" on my other list, as i had to remove all non-prog (Such as American beauty, Rubber soul, The queen is dead..). Also, this means that any of the last six easily could have been replaces with another, but this is... well, A list, at least. :)

Hmm... this is tricky, lets see... One from each band:
Genesis - Seconds Out
King Crimson - Lizard
Yes - TFTO
Pink Floyd - Atom Heart Mother (flawed, but still an excellent album IMO)
Rush - A Farewell to Kings
Magma - Udu Wudu

Univers Zero - Ceux du Dehores
VDGG - Pawn Hearts
Can - Tago Mago
I guess these are my 12 favourite prog albums from 12 various prog bands for now, but I change my mind often.

Okay, for real.
I won't say these are the "12 BEST," (a silly concept! ) but here are 12 classic prog albums which I consider to be 5-star efforts, and "essential" to any self-respecting prog collection.
In the order in which they occurred to me:
King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King
Genesis - Foxtrot
Yes - Close to the Edge
ELP - Brain Salad Surgery
Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick
Gentle Giant - In a Glass House
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Nektar - Remember the Future
PFM - Photos of Ghosts
Van der Graaf Generator - Pawn Hearts
Can - Future Days
Tangerine Dream - Force Majeure
Note: I could easily name at least one other equally-worthy entry from each of these seminal prog groups, but I wanted 12 different artists.
I like some newer stuff too (IQ is notably absent), but in the interests of sticking to the (arbitrary) 12 album maximum, I limited myself to classic, formative prog rock.
If you don't have these in your prog collection, { insert expletive}!

This is NOT a poll, though, and we have an identically-themed poll in the non-poll prog section.
