It appears that Steinhardt is back out of Kansas again, with David Ragsdale back again (Mid 90's line-up) on violin.....Anybody have details? I missed it somehow....

Yup. It happend in March after two shows in Vegas. It was a mutual decsion.

Do kansas still exist??
Un-stupid me please... I thought Livgren was going to dedicate to Proto-Kaw.... (good band by the way)

I think they are still touring under Walsh's leadership. There aren't any plans for new material though, I think both Livgren and Walsh have said they're done with Writing Kansas material. Walsh is working on his solo stuff and Livgren of course the Proto-Kaw which btw they're heading back to the studio this Christmas, |

"Kansas" still makes it's members a fair living, I gather, though for the past several years they've been primarily playing state Fairs, County Fairs, and the odd large(ish) club dates, and mostly only in the summer months.
The claim was Steinhardt wasn't committed enough to the band, but in view of the above info, it seems like there must have been more to it. |

Kansas tours with original members Steve Walsh, Phil Ehart, Rich Williams Long time Bass player Billy Greer who joined in the mid eighties and Violinist/Guitarist David Ragsdale making his second stint in the band. His first was on the Album Freaks of Nature and the live video recording of Live at the Whiskey both in the nineties. The band plays mostly songs from the era of the first album through Monolith. They do play some prog classics such as Song for America and Magnus Opus. They also do a lot of songs like playing a song and then playing a melody from another song in the instrumental section. The bands play to crowds form 500-2000, they do a lot of fairs in the summer time. I think they still command about $20,000 to 25,000 a gig and play 50-100 gigs a year so they live OK. But there are no plans to do any new music with Kansas.
I think Robby was just getting tired of it all. He lives in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. There has been no word from him at all since he left so I don't want to speculate any further.
Kerry is involved in Proto-Kaw and changed his plans to another solo album and is doing another P~K CD for release next year. The CD will have a mix of new material and selected songs to be rerecorded from Kerry's solo albums over the last ten years.
Their touring schedule has been light due to Dan Wright's back surgery in the summer of 2006 but hopefully they will be playing a greater schedule next year. They have had some contact from BajaProg, a festival on the California Mexico border, and are hoping to line up a few other So Cal concerts to make it happen. Just saw them play abut 10 days ago and they were great.
They also played at a church in the KC area (Kerry and the Pastor are friends) there is a video of the 7 song performance as well as Kerry's testimony (so if you DON'T like Christian themes don't watch it or just skip over the non musical parts) It was a great bonus to get to see them twice in three days.

While your down there check out a band called Cryptic Vision if they are playing at the time. They are great! Any Kansas fan would love them. It is like they picked up where Kansas left off but with their new ideas and slants on things.

I have Moments Of Clarity (very nice stuff), and a couple releases by Little Atlas (another FL band I believe). I just now saw that they have a new one out so that goes on the list immediatley.

In a World by CV is a great CD they released this year and I think it is a lot better than MoC and I just heard they are heading back in pretty soon to start working on their 3rd one very soon. -------------

Hey, Gar! I agree, CV's a great band coming into their own. In a World is excellent, a big step up from their first album, which had some great tunes. Kansas fans should check them out. BTW-We need to get some flames coming off your little bison icon! Art G |

If anyone could put flames on that you could.
For those of you who don't know the Artguy he is the creator of the beloved Bison Covers that Proto-Kaw uses on their CDs. He also created some CD covers for Kerry Livgrens solo stuff.
He has become a good friend of mine.
 BTW It is spelled Robby Steinhardt not Robbie
