I happened across this tiny article while looking for something else.
What do you think? Is there still some small chance of an actual Genesis reunion (A real reunion) ?
HACKETT ON THE GENESIS REUNION Original Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett who left the band after Wind and Wuthering to pursue a successful solo career, has said of the forthcoming Genesis reunion:
"First of all I would like to congratulate Tony, Mike and Phil for flying the flag once again. Good luck to them and I really hope they have a very successful tour.
I was originally approached to discuss the possibility of a five piece which would have included Peter Gabriel and yours truly but since Peter's schedule precludes this, it makes sense for the other three to celebrate the band in their 'own special way' as it were ...."
Steve recently released a new record, 'Wild Orchids', which has been described as his best album for years. He starts a Japanese tour later this month and is planning a series of UK shows early in 2007. |

I really don't get why he didn't say anything about himself joining the other three members. It seems that he relies more on Gabriel, and if he's schedule doesn't allow him to tour, then Hackett thinks he's out of it. |

I saw somewhere, possibly even the full text of that blurb from Hackett, that he and the others basically felt that since there were only two albums with just Hackett (no Gabriel) it wasn't worth doing a reunion in that formation. Something to that effect anyway.
Personally, I think they could do an excellent tour with him. I can't imagine he'd have any difficulty playing anything they did after he left.........though he may not want to. Still, why wouldn't they do a kind of Second's Out tour? Even just a few shows would certainly be worth seeing. Oh well, I'd rather see the Gabriel version any day though.

I guess we need to wait until Gabriel's schedule allows a reunion, IF he's still interested. I find it a nice gesture though that Hackett was at least approached to discuss about a reunion. I believe that a 5-man reunion later (2008?) is still possible, because as far as I know they all seem to be on good terms on personal level and the issue of personal chemistry certainly plays an important role in reunions of any kind. How likely is a 5-men reunion then, no idea!
I also have to say, I understand that they didn't build a reunion based only on A Trick of the Tail and Wind & Wuthering albums. What would they have done with that line up? Play both albums in their entirety? Fine for many of us, yours truly included, but not a very wise move career-wise. ------------- "Make tea, not love" |

why do i get the feeling that Peter's packed schedule is a subterfuge and he will never want a reunion tour? i hope i'm wrong... ------------- -music is like pornography... sometimes amateurs turn us on, even more... -sometimes you are the pigeon and sometimes you are the statue... |

It seems that he still could not get along with Tony Banks without Peter Gabriel serving as an extra 'shield' between them (as it were). It was obvious (even in a mid-1970s BBC radio interview) that he was having a falling out with Banks (i.e., he thought the keyboards on Cinema Show were way too much). The fact that Banks was the only active Genesis member at that time not asked to perform on Hackett's first solo album (1975) speaks volumes on this as well. Hackett is happy for the band as 'and-then-there-were-three' to go on again without him (if Gabriel does not join in).

I dont think he'll ever do it. Hackett and Banks had big issues, and I would put money on them being unresolved. I think it's more out of respect for Phil Collins that Hackett doesn't put the boot in, when he's asked about the past. Phil was said to be very much in the 'Hackett camp' when the tensions were reaching a peak during the WAW recordings.
To be honest I'd rather see the four piece Hackett Genesis tour again, than a Gabriel led Genesis with Daryl Stuermer on guitar. Believe it or not.... ------------- Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy! |

Well Steurmer's flash harry stuff on Genesis classics does little for me either- shredding has no place in 'Firth Of Fifth'.
I honestly don't believe it will ever happen. I'm fairly indifferent anyway- I mean, if it cost some of the prices I've seen quoted here to see the 3 man AOR line up, what price the 5 man line up that the world really had expected (not just prog fans- in Classic Rock, some experienced promoters said that was the most desirable reformation in rock, with Led Zeppelin) and wanted. |

The prices isn't as high as first believed. Still it's a bit too expensive for me since I have to add costs for travel and accomodation. I would pay anything to see a 5-man line-up though.
I agree with bhikkhu, why would Hackett want to reunion when he's just released Wild orchids?
I hope he'll visit Sweden, I'd rather see him solo than the Genesis trio.

I wouldn't go to the tour anyway, I'm only interested in a reunion if they get back into the studio and produce another Foxtrot.
Well, okay, another album along the quality lines of their classic period...
