You put in the name of a band and it gives you back a constellation of bands.
Supposedly the closer the bands are the greater the likelihood that you will
like both.

Interesting, but the nearest band to Yes is Blue Oyster Cult.
Hmm.

Nice, but a bit incomplete (hard to get it complete I guess). It's a bit strange to not see Eroc listed when typing Grobschnitt
Still - it's good input for finding new music, next to PA of course.

Ah, I see, it keeps moving all the time. Now Yngwie Malmsteen is closest.

Foo Fighters with Yes too. I don't think this site is too good really.

Its a really great idea, but it deffintely needs to be worked on. You can tell some bands just aren't in there yet. IQ should definitely be put closest to Genesis, but its not even there in the constalation...

The idea is to discover new bands? I really don't care which bands they put near Genesis etc. But this site really kicks ass.

Maybe it's based on Factor Analysis, and it's the plot of the first two factorial scores compared to the band you choose (or something like that....) but I think before something like that can give any reasonable results you need a lot of data (people's estimation of a number of aspects of the music of the bands) and clearly there's not enough of them...and then there's always another dimension, so bands who have really very little in common still look like scoring in the same place. Still it's fun...but not very accurate...

Quite a weird map. Just looked up Steve Hackett, and the nearest two to him were Chopin and Anthony Phillips. So it looks like they got that right. But then looked up Genesis, and one of the closest to them was Joe Satriani!
Strange, but interesting!

Okay, Led Zep gets no Tull, but it does get Genesis? It also gets King Crimson, which gets no Pink Floyd, but it does get Syd Barrett...who gets no Pink Floyd, but does get Roger Waters...who finally gets Pink Floyd, who, in turn, get King Crimson. Que?

write Ash Ra Tempel and see what happens ...
[edit]: oh, Brainticket is more interesting; Manowar is closer to it than Can!!!!
------------- Listen to Turkish psych/prog; you won't regret: Baris Manco,Erkin Koray,Cem Karaca,Mogollar,3 Hürel,Selda,Edip Akbayram,Fikret Kizilok,Ersen (and Dadaslar) (but stick with the '70's, and 'early 80's!)

No Ash Ra Tempel / Schulze relation, for heaven's sake!!!! and Manuel G?ching is not even available!!! (Achim Reichel is there, though...)
[edit: oh, he appears as "Gottsching"... another interesting one ]
[2nd edit: also no Ashra / Ash Ra Tempel relation!!!!!! The site is fun, indeed!]

This idea is cool. I suppose we have to let the man expand and correct things, too
Caravan and VdGG is a weird association but so is Caravan and Can.
Needs more time, but let's give the man a big hand.
