Subject: Which album should i buy?

Okay. So i am going tomorrow to buy two CD's. I know that in want Red by King Crimson, but really don't know what the other one should be. So i am asking your opinion. Which of those four you think i should buy? And if you have the time you could also tell my WHY that particular album should be my choice. Yes album is only one of the above i have listened to before, so if i am missing something great with the others just post it here! Thanks!

I vote for Yes.  Although you can't go wrong with King Crimson.  ELP would be my last choice.

Islands. Great, underrated album. It requires a few thorough listens though before it clicks.

All of them, but go with Yes first.

The Yes Album would be my first choice.  Reason is that it's simply the best one of the four.

Definitely The Yes Album, but Islands is a close second.

A vote for "Starless". The final composition "Fracture" is in my opinion the best thing Crimson have ever done (no joke)  and ranks with my top tracks of all time. Of course, that isn't the entire album. "The Night Watch" is a great KC "song", as is "The Great Deceiver", with the title track remaining a classic studio-released improvisation.

The album tends to get left out until the back end of someone collecting the KC discography, as it's sandwiched between 2 of their very best. This is unfair; it's amazing on so many levels.

They are all good albums, and I can't say you could go wrong with any of them.

But YES gets my vote today.

ELP's Trilogy.  It's a refreshing album, though it's not as good as Tarkus or Brain Salad Surgery.

I dont have Trilogy, but the other three are all mediocer albums IMO. Instead of S&BB you should get Larks' Tongues In Aspic from that era of KC if you dont already have it.

The Yes Album and Trilogy are some of the best Yes and ELP have to offer. Pick up the album by the band you like better. In my case, it's Yes. Starless and Bible Black is great too, but not on the same level as the Yes Album and Trilogy. You can get the (amazing) Night Watch and have the essential tracks off of Starless. Islands, on the other hand, is the most boring KC has to offer. The only song that's interesting in Ladies of the Road.  I suppose some King Crimson fans will disagree with me on that though.

I have Larks' Tongues in Aspic already. Great album. Since i got more money today i am gonna buy Yes album, cause it had the most votes and guess i buy Trilogy too cause it seems to be on 25 % off the price today. Thank you for posting and voting..

I recommend all of you ELP "Trilogy"!

I find yes with the exception of Close to the Edge tedious.   Try VDGG instead.   Agree that Islands is greatly under-rated but Larks Tongues is lively.

The only one I haven't got is the Yes album, but then I don't like Yes.

I've no idea how expensive CD's are in Finland but they're cheap enough here (England) to buy all 4.

I voted for Trilogy, in my opinion, ELP's most consistent album.

Islands and Starless and Bible Black are very good but not quite as good as Red. Larks Tongues In Aspic is the best though!

Trilogy is rock solid but not very exciting. The Yes Album is bright and breezy prog.Very easy to like and recommend.I don't have those 2 KC albums as yet.

I'm glad you bought Trilogy too. I voted for it cause if you allready bought Red it is wise not to choose another album of the same band. Usualy when you do so you end up prefering one of them and neglecting the other and Red is realy a masterpiece. So, in that case I think Trilogy is a very good album (except The sheriff which is weak IMO) and is better than most ELP's albums and is a very good choice.
Enjoy !

starless and bible black is good but i think it's ruined by the vocals.

If you are certainly buying Red, then do you a favour and pair it with Starless and Bible Black - this way you will get two somewhat related albums of KC, done with the same lineup and compare things. They are both great. The track called "Starless" contains lyrics "starless and bible black", but it is on Red album for some reason. Greta lineup with David Cross on violin on both!

All of them of course! Although Islands is a bit disappointing compared to the other three.
If I had to choose one it would be ummmm oooh that is a toughie. Probably the Yes album.

"The Yes Album" is a necessity. "Trilogy" and SaBB should follow soon. "Islands" can wait.
