Here are four "proto prog - related" (IMO) bands,
but which one is the most progressive?
I voted for Blind Faith, not REALLY prog but they have excellent music.

Although they'll never be included in the Archives, I voted for Led Zeppelin, for some of their material is much proggier than the stuff of some of the bands listed in the proto-prog/prog-related section. Achilles Last Stand, Carouselambra, No Quarter, Kashmir, even Dazed And Confused - and there's more.

I would have to say that the Doors edge out Zepplin by just a bit.

Zep, just for Jimmy Page's somewhat unfortunate studio layering obsession. Seriously, I love the studio stuff... but a lot of the time, Page had about 4 guitar tracks going, and JPJ would be playing bass AND organ... then Bonzo would be drumming/tympaniing, and robert plant would be... you know doin' things like "Baby baby baby babeee," and all that good stuff.

Yeah, we're runnin' a little bit hot tonight.
I can barely see the road from the heat comin' off of it.

The Battle Of Evermore has more than a light touch of prog-folk as has Gallows Pole (which in fact is a traditional), then there's South Bound Suarez and as a matter of fact I personally consider Whole Lotta Love quite proggy. Knowing about other of your posts in other threads I know that you will not agree with me, but that really doesn't keep me from keeping my peace of mind Wink

You should have put a button with "none of the above". NONE of them are prog.

It's like the Purple, you know (even if two or three numbers are prog related during Mark I).

I was hilarous when I read a reiview of the "Untitled" album from Led Zep. It seems that the reviewer wanted to justify the fact that this album was progressive because there were some acoustic  numbers on it. What a joke ! Dylan plays acoustic as well, and that does not make him a prog artist, right ?

Led Zep paved the way to heavy metal. Period. OK you have "More Time Is Gonna Come" on their first album. Wanna talk about Stairway maybe ? It is indeed one of my beloved song and probably one of the ten best in rock history but it is a plagiatory number from the band "Spirit" (track is called "Taurus"). It has some connection with prog. So : they have produced (almost) two prog tracks in their whole career. Great !

I am a Led Zep fan since 1970 (I was 11 at that time).

It is quite bizarre that for about 35 years Led Zep was considered as the heavy group by excellence, and that all of a sudden it turns to be a prog one.

This is nonsense. But I like it. Them. I mean Led Zep.

Not Them (the band, you know : Gloria ...G L O R I A).

I think that this wonderful site listed prog bands till early 2005 and that from then on, it seriously deviated. This site should be called "Rock Archives" by now. Little by little I will try and push this concept to ensure that those endless (and useless) discussion about is this one more prog than the other one are over.

THIS IS ROCK MAN. PERIOD

I think Led Zep is the most prog related here.

Some of their second period albums, such as Houses of the Holy, Physical Graffiti and Presence contains a few prog pieces...

haha it was more relevant a while ago since Led Zep wasn't in the archives. I like how Guzzman says they'll never be in the archives yet they now are.

Blind Faith. Check out Do What You Like. How many endings to the song can you find?LOL
Nice to see Sugarloaf. Only know Green Eyed Lady (excellent song) so I can't vote for 'em.

Hey Barla, welcome back, I haven't seen you in some time, but looks like you keep safe the Zepp-related threads. Wink
Zepp's my favourite band and their prog songs include some of the genre's masterpieces (!), but my vote goes for Las Puertas LOL because over-all (the whole discography) they have the more proggier materials&architecture.

Zeppelin

They have a lot of straight rock, but I give them the bennefit of the doubt cause of their vivid live jamming behaviour. ...and some pretty awsome songs on record
