I asked this girl to a show last weekendd; she was excited to go, however, she was unable to go becasue her mom told her she had other obligations to fulfill. I told her it was alright and she replied that she would definitely want to hang out sometime. In process of asking her out, I got her phone number, I gave her mine.
Before I would only talk to her at work, however, since I have her phone number I am to arrange and do other things like movies, go out to eat, ect...
Is this the start of sommething special?
Is this the most important step of a burgeoning relationship?

Without trying to sound too corny the cornerstones of any relationship besides love is trust and respect.

A number is only a small step in a long journey. Along with the Progtologist, trust and respect are huge things. If you talk to her often and have good conversations, chances are she respects you. Trust is really the next important step, but the best way to achieve that is to see this girl in a social setting, i.e. ASK HER ON A DATE.
what a pathetic bunch we proggers are...
but seriously... I've been in a relationship for 6 years now (since high school), and it definitely takes more than a phone number to have a relationship.

^there are many important steps while building a relationship... exchanging phone numbers is good for starters, much like it will be going out or kissing...
later on, if things go well, sex will be very importand and as time goes by, respect and trust.. and if you decide to get married and have children maybe money too...
ok, i went too far... my point is, depends on the time and the place of your relationship, so basically, all of the above...

the first thing you must do is win over her "mom", otherwise your relationship will be difficult, but not impossible - if you fall out with her family - elope!!

Respect my man. Trust is included with that, because you can't respect someone you don't trust.

First kiss, according to Mercedes (girlfriend). I kind of agree; certainly, I remember 5 horrible kisses that turned me off very badly. Not many people is aware about corporal language, wich tells as much as spoken one.

Trust. If you don't have that you can't have anything else.

Food. Feed your lady, otherwise, she'll get mad at you and will complain about everything. True story. Girls need care, love (lots), kisses (lots); but most of all, they need food. Almost always, that food needed is cheesecake.
Here they are (girlfriend on white, friend on pink), looking peaceful and innocent. But when the time comes, they will throw me into the kitchen in the middle of roars and complains that won't stop until a proper meal is offered to them; something like hand made potato noodles with hand made tomato sauce, quiché, orange pancakes, chocolate pancakes, etc. This photograph shows only 2 of them, so be carefull, they come in diferent colours, all beautiful as a thousand rainbows.

I had a friend who did just that. Didn't go down well with his girlfriend when he started going out with her mom instead.

I'm going to say Trust. Although respect is just as much [maybe] as the former.

I preferred Prof Rideout's other "movements" thread...that version of Wipeout was so cool!
Some of the audience seemed to have the urge to run though...
Sounds like a great hippy band actually:

Thanks, but 'tis no more -- it has been "wiped out" (by my request/own hand) in the interests of good taste.
Not to worry -- more pollish silliness will certainly follow.
(The song can still be found on the "How old were you when" thread.)
