Ok Folks,
The line-up has now been confirmed for ProgPower UK II on 31st March 2007 at the Centaur, Cheltenham Racecourse, Glos.
The line-up from Headliners to Openers is as follows:
Jon Oliva's Pain (USA)
Kamelot (USA)
Leaves' Eyes (Germany)
Communic (Norway)
Haggard (Germany)
Dreamscape (Germany)
Scar Symmetry (Sweden)
Cloudscape (Sweden)
Personally, I'm looking forward to Cloudscape, Dreamscape & Kamelot; the other 5 bands are at present unknown to me.....
As you will be aware, this festival is in its infancy, and made a loss last year. In order for it to succeed and become a regular feature in the calendar, it will need as many prog and power metal fans as possible residing in the UK to attend....

I wasnt able to go to this years festival unfortunatly, but I'll try for next. Considering this is a UK festival, shouldnt there be at least 1 UK band on the list?

well, they did have Threshold last year (who were superb as 2nd on the bill behind Therion), and I know they have tried to get Dragonforce (prob with dates, I think...) the problem at present are the number of quality prog/ power metal acts from the UK who'd fit onto the bill, although I'm sure that is something which will be addressed in the future...
I admit that next year's lineup isn't particularly prog orientated but there were a number of prog bands they tried (eg Green Carnation) who had other commitments... maybe 2008??

Kamalot is the only band playing that I actually know, but it could be a good show, even if they are a little short on British talant.

Not really my scene, but I may go along. I've heard a lot of praise about Communic. Cheltenham isn't all that far from me either.

In all honesty, just like last year, not all of the bands are to my taste either (although I admit I'd love to see Kamelot)....
...the point is, this fest is the only likely chance of the UK being able to pull some of the great European names in prog metal to anywhere outside London, and that will only happen if people get behind it.
I know that Riverside, Green Carnation, Pain Of Salvation, Vanden Plas, Epica & Jorn Lande are all highly likely possibilities for the next couple of years, providing the festival is allowed to grow through support.
Failing this, these bands will just continue to do one-off dates in London as part of their European tours, if that... (see PoS's 2007 European dates, and you'll see my point)
I agree that it isn't all to my taste, but only by getting prog metal fans to attend, can we hope to influence the organisers in their choice of bands... at present, the supporters are very Power Metal orientated, and the 2007 bill seams to reflect that... ------------- Music has always been a matter of energy to me. Interesting that none of the confirmed acts are actually from the U.K. Does anyone no any NON prog-metal festivals?
ProgFest in Chippenham in 2004 had a great line-up (I.Q, Pineapple Thief and others I can't remember). -------------

Well, if my support can help influence them getting those bands you mentioned then wheres my wallet! RE-non metal prog festivals: The Summers End festival was held in Bilston a couple months ago (great show) and had the like of Credo, White Willow, Pendragon, Pure Reason Revolution and the Flower Kings performing. ------------- Spending more than I should on Prog since 2005

^^^ I know that the organisers are keen to see a reasonable split between both Power & Prog Metal on the bill, and want as much as variety as possible (eg with Orchestra (Haggard) Operatic Vocals (Therion) Eastern Influence (Orphaned Land) etc.....
but at the end of the day, they will book whichever bands sell the tickets to ensure its future financial viability....
...what we DON'T want is for the fest to become another Bloodstock, which is the danger if its not supported by enough Progheads....  ------------- Music has always been a matter of energy to me. As far as the booking of the bands is concerned, it depends very much on timing - ie if a band has other touring/ recording/ personal commitments, and of course financial - how much are they asking to travel to England & perform??
I can only imagine that Jon Oliva & Kamelot are both costing quite a bit to drag then over from the U.S.
This is only possible through Sponsorship deals, advertising revenues and most importantly ticket sales!! ------------- Music has always been a matter of energy to me. kamelot and haggard will make a great show.terific bands.power metal, joined with some celtic stuff from haggard,leaves' eyes with tranquility and gentle tunes will soften the show it will awesome.

An interesting discussion going on here!
We are somewhere between PPUSA and PP Europe, and the remit is mainly Progressive & Power Metal, but with some different stuff thrown in.
On the lighter/proggier side, we have Cloudscape and Dreamscape, on the heavier, proggy side there's Communic, and the rest of the lineup hopefully gives it some balance. Kamelot haven't been here since 2002, and Jon Oliva will be playing a shedload of Savatage tracks, so if you like the 'tage, this is going to be very special.
We approached Green Carnation, POS and a few others, but it didn't happen, mainly because of recording commitments and the like - but we have a good relationship with all the bands that we've ever spoken to, so nothing is out of the question for the future.
Bottom line is, there's nothing else quite like this in the UK, and even if 2007 isn't quite to your taste, if you can come along and support us it will be massively appreciated, and you may find that a future lineup is more to your liking. We are a really friendly lot, and the atmosphere and venue are really cool.

As far as parking goes, there is a HUGE, FREE car park for about 12,000 cars (and plenty of space for bikes too) right at the venue. That is one of the good things about it not being a city centre venue. There are also plenty of B&Bs nearby as well. They cater for 250,000 people over Gold Cup week, so no worries on that front. Can I ask, is there anyone on this site who will be going to this festival??
Unfortunately, Scar Symmetry have cancelled the gig, as they have been offered an opportunity to tour the United Sates for a month.
 Consequently, their place has been taken by Heed (from Sweden) who will now be opening the show. Doors open at 12.30pm Sat 31st; Heed will be on stage at 13.00 sharp (or, so I'm told...).
