I've noticed a great many five star reviews in PA. In the guidelines section we're told to give these sparingly ( And rightfully so ! ). Masterpieces are rare and should be the defining moments of a genre. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be arrogant and criticize people's reviews. I'm just questionning the rating system ( even if this is a subjective thing...).

I'm with you. There are way too many five star reviews, and many of them only gives five stars, with little motivation for the rating. I think we ought to make it harder to give five stars to an album. I have no idea how it would be possible, but I feel it's needed.

Many of those 5* ratings come from more ancient times, but some are obviously still coming. Trouble is that mailto:M@X - M@X wants those unreviewed rating to remain.

This is partly why I never look at those PA Top lists >> they have been skewed a long time ago by fanboy.

The database contains thousands of ratings, and people are using various schemes ... enforcing *one* schemes for new ratings will not "repair" the old ratings. I think it's best on any website with any rating scheme to just show people how many steps there are, and leave the rest to them.

The only thing that happens when you try to enforce "guidelines" is that people will "pollute" their reviews with instructions on how to interpret their ratings (how they differ from the guidelines).

I think the problem could be in part solved allowing reviewers to graduate their vote as for example:

*** + 1/2 or 3/4

Pure 5 stars will be easily and immidiately reduced.

This has been discussed. Unless it is a clear fanboy-ism or a blurr argument, you can't blame someone for their ratings. Regardless of being a five stars or a one star. Simple.

It has been already discussed but not even tested. Simple.Wink

BTW, as I said, the problem would be IN PART solved. Think it's worth one's while.

ive always liked this idea

many of my reviews would have it, as I usually only give 3 stars and above, which makes it really difficult to differentiate albums
