| The only connection I can see Madgo is that prog too can have jazz leanings. They are coming from opposite directions though. |

That is an interesting response and I truly do not see Steely Dan as fitting the progressive genre however they have "progressed" beyone the bounderies of straight rock and pop. Who is considered prog or who do you consider prog with jazz leanings? ------------- He whom life can no longer surprise |

Prog bands with jazz leanings would include Caravan, King Crimson, Soft Machine etc. Agree entirely with your summary of how Steely Dan have progressed, they have developed their pop rock orientation by adding jazz elements. |

I like Steely Dan. I don't own any, but when my friends play Steely Dan, I
can see the attraction. Steely Dan albums are usually recorded extraordinarily well. Great sound. If I have my choice, though, I wouldn't be listening to Steely Dan. It's more of a, "how the other half lives" experience. Excellent musical values, but not prog. I just joined this forum (just discovered the progarchives site and I'm loving it), because I wanted to point out that there is an excellent definition of "Progressive Rock" at Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_rock |
